broken clutch pivot ball?

i just installed a twin plate exedy and i just recently started driving the car again 3 days ago. today whilst driving to the dry cleaners, the clutch pedal engagement point falls to the beginning of clutch travel, engine vibrations can be felt violently through the pedal, and when the clutch pedal is all the way in, the car shakes and wants to die.

before this episode today, the clutch pedal was smooth, engagement was near the top half of pedal travel, etc., etc.

i checked the hydraulics today: master cylinder is fine (brand new oem), fluid is still full in the master cylinder, slave cylinder is not leaking (new oem about 3k miles ago), and the hardline and flex braided line are fine. the threaded part on the clutch pedal and master cylinder rod are still where i adjusted it to.

when i did the clutch job, i replaced tob and carrier sleeve (i think that's what it's called). per hugh's giken install instructions, i wanted to grab a nismo pivot ball, but the local dealer was out and the parts guy assured me my current one would be ok.

does anybody have any clue if it is the pivot ball, or something simpler to get to?

Ive seen pivit balls brake on inssans several times(none 240s) but i doubt this is the case.if it was, then slave would have overextended and you wouldnt have any pressure. Get under teh car and see if you can move the fork up and down(verticaly) if ball is broken you will have plenty of play.

Other thing that could have happened is where tob hooks up to the fork it poped off.

Its very hard to tell without looking at it but without a doubt you will have to get the tranny down again and see what is going on...

PS you can try remove the dust boot around the fork and look inside the tranny maybe you will be able to see something.

when my pivot ball broke 1 week after new clutch install, the only symptoms I had was that the clutch pedal dropped to the floor in the middle of rush hour traffic.

so I'm not completely sure thats whats wrong, but the only experience I've had with pivot balls breaking has been mine.

I am having the same problem right now. My TO bearing sized, that is why the car chatters when the clutch is disengaged, the seized TO bearing is trying to stop the PP from turning. BTW, i destroyed the fingers on my PP, wish you better luck!
