Could be the sub that just sounds crappy. Throw in a idq 10 and i'm willing to bet it sounds good. Also, what type of amp and power you running to the sub.

Tenchuu, it's only crap because the speaker you're using is completely wrong. You need to use a FREE-AIR subwoofer. The one you have is for a enclosure box.
oh my old lexus, i had two free-air pioneer speaker mounted on the rear speaker tray. The sub sounded great, but my mid and highs had problems. edit: just notice that r240na mentioned the same thing. alittle more research and you could've saved your time hehe.

Xtant is definately a badass product. But like others have suggested, try using a free-air sub. Don't let the name fool you, yes they sound pansy.. and disgusting, but in your case, it should help.
Besides, I'm pretty sure that enclosed area isn't as sealed as you may think it is... Lastly, ugh I'd hate to put a sub there. I don't know if the panel can handle a JL W6 RMSing 500watts. Edit: Oh yeah, you may need dynamatt to keep the panels from vibrating. |

i didnt say anything about Xtant. Xtant are GREAT!
The problem is your enclosure. you designed that for free air (hope you knew this), so you need to use a free air sub. Your xtants are not made for that setupi. that is your problem. a bulky close box will sound 10 times better. but that thing you glued into your car isn't a close box. I can cleary see all the venting in your pictures. the location of your OEM seat belts. the seam welds on the OEM spot welds. that rear quarter panel goes all the way back through the trunk btw. just because you put a piece of wood over a huge cut hole; doesn't make it CLOSED!.

Walmart? I in no way was bashing your sub nor your setup. And yes I would take an idq over that sub for that specific setup. Since you have already have that sub I am sure you should look into some deadner, or maybe look into your power source.
I am real into sound stage and design scene. I only am trying to help, Please try not to take offense to replies from us. You are the one who is giving up on your install. We are just trying to give advice and tips/motivation for you to keep at it. You obviously took time out to do a write up so do one. trial and error make for perfection. |

expanding hardening foam will not seal it like a box. go to an audio forum. they will tell you the samething I said.
expanding hardening foam is actually used for weather protection. many people use it for car audio, but it's not the best way to do what you have in mind. This is why you need a free-air sub. btw, i'm not a fan of boom boom base sound in my car anymore. I left that back in high school. I'm more into a good powerful headunit and clear speaker. alpine 9855 + focal (replacement of stock speakers). then call it a day. no amps, no big box with woofers.

Thanks to the people that added critisim and ways to improve, but due to some, i ended up spending more time agrueing with them about what they would do with all the resources that they can imagine rather than auctually workin on the project with my goals and materials, so i guess maby when it's all done i will re-post a complete install until then you know who you are:
