......what would you do? I myself am thinking of converting my 96' 240sx into a daily driver silvia. My 240sx is completely stock (I purchased it only a week ago) and I have a couple goals for the car. First I want to make it a silvia (which sounds like it will take up my $8,000), second I want to make it have low 12's high elevens on street tires, third I want this car to be able to perform well on the local track. I was wondering if after I do a silvia front end conversion and engine swap where to go from there. Seeing my goals of making my car a fast silvia but also a daily driver, I want to know if that's even possible to pull off the 1/4 times i want if i had $5,000 more? OR if I should stick with the ka24de and make it turbo? or would the sr20det be better for the track and the same for the 1/4? Thanks

sorry if this has been discussed before

damn.... i could spend $8000 on suspension alone....

one question... how exactly would you convert it to a silvia front end besides just swapping the front grill, and possibly the bumper (unless you wanna go all out and get the german headlights too).
anyways, it's your car... you'll get whatever balance out of it you want, with performance aspects and visual aspects....

TURBO KA all the way!!!!!!!!
Well you could use the best quality componets for a custom turbo setup(which I found you could easily spend 10k on), or like ace said spend it all on suspension. But if you want a nice balance of both, get a turbo kit(or build your own kit) and some nice coilovers, sway bars, strut bars, and nice wide tires. Between me and ace, we could easily pour 20k into a car. But hell, wait for a 350Z or G35 coupe if you've got that kind of money.

either setup will let you achieve your goals with the right amount of time and money spent. Do what you truly want, dont let others opinions be the basis of what you want to do.

The swap or turbo kit alone, you should set aside a good $8000 for that, and possibly the other $5000 for suspension.

But in the end, make the car what you want it to be, not what others want it to be.

Sil-.....40?
yes indeed, Sil-40!

what i'd really like to do would be to get a nice looking silvia front end conversion, im not sure which one it is, but the one with the hella mean looking headlights. i think that would look very nice on a 91 fastback. Not that i dont enjoy the imprint of a trailor hitch that currently decorates my hood

aside from that, all my other ideas would all be performance mods, i think i would like to see what interesting results i could get out of turbo-ing the KA > . but alas its a long long road to travel before i have enough experience to even attempt that lol.

i kind of want a sleeper car, so visual mods arent high on my list. that silvia front end is just an interesting idea i'd like to try some day. what i want out of my car is a nice, stock looking 240 that will get people cocky thinking they could smoke me no prob, only to turn around and get blasted by the big, beefy powerhouse hidden under my hood (muahahahaah)

so i guess in short, that $8000 would go towards either a turbo, using the left overs to replace whatever other parts that would give me better performance, or going all out replacing damn near everything i can with performance parts. (for exhaust i would probably get an Apexi N1 Dual to keep a somewhat stock look )

a stock SR swap and suspension... I think I'd have enough left after the SR to do coilovers... or so I like to think. Cusco coilovers, Whiteline anti-sway bars, and some cusco STBs. maybe some of those fancy Do-Luck braces if I had anything left after that!

Dude
SR w/ basic upgrades (fmic,intake,exahust,downpipe,boost controller,550cc injectors,high flow pump) 235-245hp
total: $6000
then its all about suspension; coilovers, sway bars.

That my friend is a formidible street machine!

It may not run those 12s your looking for but it will shock you just how fast that mofo is. Right now I am on the suspension portion. (Waiting for the UPS dude to bring me my damn 3in dp and intake as we speak)

Or pay off those damn credit cards that you put all the upgrades to the KA on

Oh man...that would save me....hooorrayyy...oh wait...im not really getting $8K. If I did though, I would get the SR swap, then start working on the suspension (still hoping to get coilovers soon, so I'll start after that), tension rods, bushings, swaybars, and rear strut bar (I already have the front). Then I'd get rims and tires, and then lay off the mods for a bit and save the rest of the dough. That'd bring it damn near $8K though...

uhm 8K? Bwhahahahah cough cough.

Yeah, I want s uper fast, super fly, awesome handling car for cheap, what should I do?

I hate to sounds like an ass but it just chaps my hide when people ask questions like that. Priorities guy, priorities. Cars ARE NOT CHEAP and you can't have it all. Either you spend mad cash (8K is not "mad cash" BTW) or you go cheap and sacrifice. What do you really want?

A show car? You can drop 8K in a heartbeat. All that neon and stickers gets pricey yo

A Drag car, a built engine will run you more than half your budget and there's no turbo on it yet.

A track car, ever hear about penske shocks? You wanna drop the other half of you budget on struts alone, no coil overs or sways or anything else?

The best lesson I ever learned about cars is that it's all about compromise. A good drag car IS NOT by definition a good track car. Nor can it be a good show car. Shit brakes, suspension setup are all different AND BEYOND ALL OF THAT, you need to be pretty damn smart to figure out what makes the car go.

Asking "I want it all, how do I do it" won't get you far, wont get you any respect, and definately won't get you what you want. Surf the board and see if what you want is reasonable, write a list of whats important to you then do some more research, you'll be way better off in the long run.

Ease up there, Rob. He was askin what WE would do with $8K so he could get his bearings on what he should/could/would do with $8K. There's no harm in that is there? Not everyone is a car guy, and everyone has to start somewhere...so just...ease up!

what the hell you talkin about a 91 front lights when you originally said you have a s14? do you know what your talking about first of all? s14s are the same in japan as in the us ace already mentioned the minor things needed.

i persoally would go all suspension

get every product from do-luck the rear ladder bar cross bar side bar front ladder bar floor bar the mini roll cage tension bar.

then if anymoney is left over from going "jdm" (but that is a good "jdm") i would go with cusco stb's front and rear rear upper control arms, triangle bar zeal b6 coilovers (i think 8k wouldn't have lasted this long though) some nice light weight rims with nice track tires (kosie's with some azenas)

and then i'd have one of the best handling 89 coupes with my limping on one leg sohc ka

yeah baby!

Hmmm, I would go 1 of two ways.
First way:
1)Get the SR20 and sell the crappy truck engine to a dump.
2)Blitz Nurspec R Exhaust
3)Blitz Active Clutch (Twin Disc)
4)Blitz Downpipe
5)Blitz 550cc Injectors
6)Blitz Intercooler & Piping
7)Denso Iridium Plugs
8)Intake
9)Sparco Corsa Racing Seats(2)
10)Nismo 4 Point Racing Harness(2)
11)Nismo (or if Blitz makes one, Not sure) Lightened Flywheel
That right there without shipping is a mere 6000 dollars rounded up. With just that, youve got yourself a pretty nice engine. Im pretty sure that shipping is not included.

For the electronics for the above, Id get this
1)Blitz SBC-ID
2)Blitz Power Meter ID
That would run you about 1200 bucks right there.

The second way:
1)Zeal Coilovers and Shocks
2)Endless Brakes
3)Advan SA3R rims
4)Advan Modle 6 AVS
5)SSR Mesh
6)Yokohama Tires
7)Other interior goodies

If I had $8000 extra, I would put 2,000 in a 3-5 year CD, and take the other 6,000, and invest it in stocks. Buy pretty much any book written by the guys at the motley fool, and your ready to go. In 10 years you'll have 20k to blow on whatever you want.

OR.. As one of those, "man it would be cool to have projects.." I'd get an s14, and slap S13 front end on it. ooohhh yyeah
edit - Add cool body kit, and Ground effects as needed

Mike

How much could someone get for selling the KA, like ballpark figure

damn if I had 8K I would have my S13 w/ SR and basic mods, then I can spend the money I am saving right now for cwest kit, 5Zigen typhoons and a new paint job, but I am not gonna be stumbling on 8K anytime soon

EDIT: Forgot to finish my post

I'm using it to help me get in to a house. If I can score on a good program that will cost me little to no down payment, I'm using my 9g to buy:

A 16:9 big screen :whackit:
cams, cam gears, N1 Dual, Header, short shifter, ecu, and dyno tuning
depending on what's left, I'm going to get 4 17" 5zigen Fireball Typhoons with some quality rubber.

Then to the track

Singing
"If i had $8000 dollars, (if i had $8000 dollars!! ) I would buy you a Engine (yea a nice reliable turbo beast ) , If i had $8000, (if i had $8000 dollaaaaarrrrrrrrrrs!! ) I'd BE RICH!!!!! ....."

LOL ok dont ask me where that came from
anyway man, depending on how many miles you got on the current engine, i'd get the SR20 man...,drop and a kit...

But You say you want it to be a Silvia so why are we even having this convo, Get the front end convert done, then throw the rest into suspension... adn you'll be coool daddyo
one thing about doing the S15 front end convert man, i'd need rims, that front end is jus to damn hot to be rolling on stocks.. so think about that too

Also if you go for the engine, which would be cool... remember that engine isn't easy to come by here in the states.. so if there a problem your gonna need mega help fixing it.. so get you ties and your info down pat first....
Yo man have fun with your car and choose a good one, you can't go wrong... unless you like invest all the money into parts for a sentra by mistake
