a few front main seal questions

1. the most important, since i have a sr20det, can i use one from a sr20de? that would be hella convienant, but if not i know i can order them from phase2. hopefully since i have a underdrive pulley it wont be a pain to pull

2. is there a crush washer under the bolt for the pulley

3. all i need to do is put a 27mm on the nut and rest the breaker bar on the inner fender well and bump the motor over?

4. is that method better than pulling the starter out and having someone wedge a pry on part of the fly wheel? ( friend did it yesterday )

1. Yes, USDM SR20DE seal fits, direct replacement.

2. No.

3. I just put a long bar on the socket and unscrewed it. Put the front wheels on ramps, rears on the ground, trans in 3rd gear, e-brake locked tight, chocked rear wheels. Bolt came right off with very little drama.

4. Never tried it that way either. I don't think you need to pull the starter OR use the engine to turn the bolt.

You'll probably need a gear puller to get the pulley off.

Good luck!

when the motor is in the car, the best method is just to leave the rear wheels on the ground with the car in a high gear and e-brake up, as the first reply stated.

easiest by far. keep it simple.

you can take it off with a prybar but you have to be very careful to wedge it out a little bit at a time. pry too hard and you'll damage the lip of the pulley.

Or, pry too hard and crack the front cover of the engine. It's only cast aluminum, after all. I went to AutoZone and rented a puller; it's not really a rental, just a deposit, you keep it as long as you need it and then you get all your money back.
