Auto VS Manual? (ecu)

Well, I did my 5 speed swap about 2 months ago, and me and a friend were messing around on a roll of 4. He has a SOHC fastback, and I have a S14 kouki. Anyhow, he claims that he caught up with me.. on a ROLL of 40 in 3rd, when I was in 2nd. So, I guess my car's running pretty bad. Anyways, does anyone know if there is a major difference in how a car performs if it has either a MANUAL or an AUTO ecu? My friends tell me that because I'm using the AUTO one, it's slowing me down. Is this true? Please let me know guys..

Not true...

My car ran great after my 5-sped swap, when I still had the auto ECU.

The fuel/timing curves are the same...the auto ECU has some auto-trans related OBD stufff, but that DOES NOT affect performance.

His car is probably lighter than yours by ~150lbs, depending on model.

Oh, so other than the check engine/service engine light coming on.. than it's all the same. Do you think there will be any more of a difference if I were to install a manual one in? (Which I'm still looking around for.. I need to purchase one.) And yes, his car is alot lighter than my car. I'm saying about 400 lbs at least.

Auto ECU should help you because to my knowledge it has no speed limiter on it.
