Fade to Black (Not for 56k)
Well I decided to post since there are a few interior swaps going on and none have gone the "aftermarket carpet" route -- so I thought I'd comment on mine.
I originally had a brown interior in my black coupe... why? You gotta ask Nissan about that. So I've seen Makoto who dyed the carpet and painted the pieces. I also read West's post about using the thicker SOHC carpets but I didn't find any suitable ones in the junkard. Nor was anyone selling their old carpets when I was looking --- sadly now, I see people selling. ![]() During the last few months, I've been acquiring dark gray/black interior parts. I also began researching the idea of buying a new carpet. Deciding that OEM carpet was too expensive and non-convertible carpet not produced anymore (Nissan Dealer wanted $600 for a 94 convertible carpet and 6-8 weeks from Japan), I went w/ an aftermarket carpet. So I received the carpet and started removing stuff... ![]() Then throughout the week and past 2 weekends... I finally finished. ![]() ![]() ![]() My thoughts: Aftermarket carpets are a very nice alternative.... if you know what you're doing. I didn't... so I have a few extra cuts/holes in certain areas. Its "molded" but not as deep as I think it is. I also have it fitting funny in the rear due to removing the belt that connects to the automatic seatbelts -- hence the reason I still have the brown belts in. Until I get a set of black manual belts (canadian or S14) they will stay... also kept the Canadian B-pillar too. I still need to get some black/grey seats. Wanted S15 seats but I'm starting to realize that S14 will match better and be much cheaper. And also --- I swapped dashed and removed my old vin plate and re-riveted to the black dash. No problems w/ the police now. ![]() Anyways, just another option for those who thought about getting an aftermarket carpet. I will be updating this thread when I finally get my seats for the full conversion to black. (Hence the title). -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |

best bet, get a stained OE carper and dye it.. I made the mistake and i didnt take Russ' (aka RDM aka R240NA) advice. He told me to go with SEM. I couldnt find it and went with a different product. It looks great, however i question the longevity.
I did have a very good experiance with RIT dye. I dyed my rear seats black to match my sparco bucket. so far soo good. |

I got the carpet from www.StockInteriors.com
They offered a molded carpet for coupes, but as far as I can tell -- the passenger section between a coupe and fastback is the same. I don't believe they offer "headliner" carpet as I managed to buy an entire headliner from a fellow Zilvia member parting out their car. A few shots of "Febreeze" to remove any odors and it was good to go. Installing was pretty straight forward, remove sun visors/rear view mirror/dome light, a/b/c-pillars and piece in the rear and it comes right out. Installation is the reverse of normal. I now have an entire brown interior for sale if anyone's interested. Haha -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |

Aaron, now take the carpet fabric off the doors. It's very easy. Just pull it off nice and easy. And remove, I mean tear off the fabric off the glove box. That's what I did to have more black interior. Bought vinyl from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Sprayed adhesive on it and waited for it to dry and it's all good. Here are some pics.

For reference its all in excellent condition as in these pieces I removed: ![]() I'm currently in talks with someone interested in buying everything from me, but if you're interested in picking it all up, please let me know. I'll start bagging it all up tonight so it stays in great condition. I'll even throw in an extra set of B-pillars and canadian a-pillars too. (brown of course haha) Quote:
I will PM you regarding the vinyl since I want to re-upholder that area on my door panels. Thanks for the tip! -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |

correction: i did not dye my carpet, i puchased new molded custom carpet. it fit well and i trimmed it a little too much (ya live and learn). i paid 133 shipped.
i dyed my dash and doorpanels then painted all the plastic stuff. seems to be holding up well even with being scraped due to working on the car n stuff. cliffs nots: bought not dyed. |

I'll take some pics of an S13 carpet I dyed in a friend's car, it was the OE light gray and stained to hell and back, we pressure washed it twice with Simple Green then dyed it, using a brush to turn the fibers and get it in deep. Turned out perfect, I'm thinking about doing mine soon since I've got three extra S14 carpets and everything else in my car is now black as well, recovered headliner and S15 seats front and back. SEM dye also works perfect on interior plastics if you follow the right steps and use their cleaner and prep sprays, light coats can recondition even the roughest looking panels and hide all the scratches pretty well without having to replace everything. With 240s becoming older every day most cars are going to have some gouged quarter panels and sill plates and buying new isn't an option due to the cost, rear quarters are close to $200 each new.

So Russ....where do you get this SEM dye. I'm looking to redo all the interior in the S14 soon enough....as well as possibly doing the carpet in the S13. Are there different products for each (In regards to carpet and interior panels)?
Did ya use spray cans for the carpet...or brush on?? -Bill

They sell numerous prep and cleaner sprays, and dyes in all kinds of colors, works with all materials in most cases. The stuff is expensive compared to regular paints but it lasts. They also have the texture coating I use to mimic OE plastic also. Check out my album for some recent pics of stuff I've done: http://www.t-mobilepictures.com/proj...=1121705032682

Sorry Makoto, I know in previous posts you dyed the panels, but thought you did that w/ the carpet too. My mistake there. Anyways, thanks for the input. I've got my black panels and I would possibly have dyed my OEM carpet because I was at wit's end a few times w/ the install and the trimming. Russ -- I don't think you can see too many of the pieces you sold me, but they are on there installed. Thanks! I owe thanks to many other people who sold me stuff and when I finally get some S14 (or S15) seats to finish up the install, I'll mention people and post updated pictures. Its definitely not perfect, but from the driver's seat --- its fine to me. -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |

Send me an e-mail - [email protected], I still have the brown Canadian B-pillar but am in the process of picking up a set in black so these would be for sale.
Already sold the rest of the interior. Haha yeah, SOLD it! I was just as surprised anyone wanted a brown interior. -Aaron '91 240sx coupe |
