drift spin turn knob question

my friend gave me one of these. I hear that some are threaded? Well mine's not. At first, i simply put it over my stock button. It fit really tight, but once i tried to take it off, the whole metal rod thingy came out. Scared the **** outta me like i broke my car or something. Well I figured out how the ebrake worked, so i removed the spring on this L-shaped rod, put my ebrake boot on, and stuck the drift knob on top of the button, so now if i want the ebrake engaged, i pull the button out and if i want it to move freely, i push it in.

Is this how it's supposed to work? Cus it was some scary **** to go through and plus i couldnt read japanese. I also had to bend some metal around the ebrake button. It works now and thats cool, but i just wanna know anyone else's experience with them. I hope I'm using it correctly.
