nop you are wrong, i had an S13 SR20 short shifter, didn't work, you need other tranny parts to make it work, but im not going to search for you, so www.google.com knock your self out.

! was under the impression that they all swapped in...i.e. S13/S14/Skyline. I know my buddy's Z32 has some linkage involved, but i thought the gearbox for the Skyline lined up with the car similarly to the S chassis?? I'm too tired and don't care enough to search either, but i am curious... post up when you find something.

rb20 is same transmission as sr and ka. rb25 is different. and of course so is rb26.

EDIT: Bardabe, by some of the parts, did you mean you tried to install a c's style short shifter without having the original shifter pieces? because if you did, you need a wave washer and a bush socket.

i had that, thing was the shifter wouldn't push it "all the way" into gear specially reverse, so i would drive and it would pop out of gear. i put the stock shifter in, and it worked fine. that shifter worked perfectly on my SR20. i know what parts they are i just dun remeber the name that's why im saying search on it i know its only like 1 or 2 things you change and u can get a KA shifter to work. B&M and others will work too once that mod is done

I'm using a ka B&M shifter. I had to modify the base plate a little but it works perfectly now. Here's a little writeup i did on nico.

The stock ka shifter is a direct match and it is shorter than the stock rb20 shifter

Anyone saying that the KA/SR are the same as an RB20 shifter are purely speculating and should stop. The KA/SR shifter fits RB20DE just fine but they are not a 100% bolt in for a DET. I read up on the subject awhile ago so I can't give you all the details but I know that if you want to use a KA/SR shifter it requires you to remove parts (internal shift arm?) from the KA/SR and install it into your RB20det tranny which is more work that it's worth unless you have the parts lying around and your tranny is removed from the car.

The only shifter available for sale currently would be a Nismo solid shifter for RB20DET, which is always a special order part from Japan.

I'm not going to link you to ebay auctions, but i'm sure you can find it.

thanks man, i'll repay the kindness.

as far as the nismo shifter is concerned, does it actually shorten the throw, or does it just firm it up (like with the sr one..)

I'm thinking it just tightens everything up, you know how Nismo does things, takes a stock part and just improves it a 'little' bit.

there is always cut and weld.

Absolutely right. KA/SR/RB are not the same. And if you look on ebay for a short shifter for your RB20 and see some (I think last I looked there were fidanza ones saying they worked for RB20), the fact is they work only for the RB20DE not T...

I would go with the B&M install for a KA and modify it to work. Doesn't look too difficult.

Here's the other route i took. It didn't require removing the trans either. Working perfectly too! Not pretty but functional. Wouldn't be hard to make it look pretty either.
