How to: s14 ka mafs repair
So I have been having a weird problem fixing my stalling/bogging/hesitating problem for about a month. Nothing worked after I repaired and fixed everything that could possibly cause this problem. I wasnt throwing any codes so it made me think it was mechanical but i was wrong. this also fixed my buddys 240 that was throwing a mafs code.
If you are having a problem with stalling/bogging/hesitating, and it isn’t going away, start your car, and wiggle your mafs connector left and right kinda hard (but don’t break it!). If it stalls out check to see if their isnt any loose wires or it isnt dirty. If everything checks out good then you have a pretty common problem I have encountered for the past few years. take out your mafs and take off the 4 small Philips screws where the harness connector goes, and you will see your problem is inside. Sometimes the solder breaks loose and you get a bad connection. Here is how to fix it. You will need: 1.small pliers 2.soldering iron 3.the really slim solder 4.heat shrink 5.something to cut with 6.heat gun 7. 20-22 gauge wire ![]() First you want to remove the 4 small Philip screw on your mafs connector and remove that part from the mafs. Now you will take you connecter and pliers and bend the prongs down the opposite direction.(make sure you do all 3) ![]() Take your mafs and hold it how I am in the picture, you will see 3 prongs sticking out and bend them down twards the writing that says flow. You don’t want the prongs to be down completely, just enough to stick your wire in there so you can get a good angle to solder. ![]() Now take your 20-22 gauge wire and cut 3 1-2 inch strips. Strip both ends and apply a little solder to each end. I found it to be easier to solder the mafs first then the connecter part second. Now all you have to so is solder the wire to each of the correct ends. Make sure you use heat shrink as close as possible to each base of the mafs and connector. ![]() Before you put it all back together make sure everything is good and tight. Shoving the wires inside the mafs is tricky, and try not to use any tools to shove the wires inside. ![]() bolt your mafs back up and test it out ![]() Well thats it i hope this will help some of you guys out. I honestly dont know if this will effect the mafs reading, but i havent had any problems for sometime now. If you are having similar problems try it out and make sure everything checks out good on your mafs reading with your DMM or consult. Good luck |

this is odd, but i do see effects of crap messing up the connections, I just dont see how there's an opening that can get to those connections that you soldered?
also, any type of specific solder or flux? |

When you open up your mafs from the only place possible, you look at the top most part their should be 3 resister looking parts with little prongs sticking out. You need to bend that part down. It should be really easy to bend, because they have the consistency of solder. I will try to get some better pictures.
As for solder just get the really slim stuff, like if you where soldering a printed circuit board |
