Manual S13 seat belt using Sentra belts

Later on today, I will give a shot at it. Picked up seatbelts from a 89 sentra at the junk yard, compared them with an s13 there, and everything looks good, The major bolts will line up, except 2 small support brackets, but Ill find a away around this. Ill post up pics on my findings and how to later on. Just thougth Id give a heads up. So overall, picked up belts for $20, and there are tons of Sentras in junk yards.

Using belts from 87-90 Nissan Sentra (B12)
Here are pics of original setup..


Notice the bolt/screw layout on the original motor track. The sentra belt will go here.


Two holes will need to be drilled for the brackets since they do not line up.

After trimming of the interior panal. Carpet will also need to be trimmed where the bottom point bolts in.

What really sucks is that the a-pillar trim fits really loose since the original track isnt there to support it. But oh well. Don't forget to remove all the lap belt crap and use thread lock. Now I gotta get started on the passangers side.... weeeee!!

just a thought, but couldnt you space out the upper mounting point(where it pivots) so that way you could make a more fitting cut in the trim? does anyone see aditional stress being put on because of that making it a no no? this is nice, now i dont have to get someone to hunt belts for me in canada. yay!

You could've just bought S14 belts.

I don't personally like the idea of spacing that upper mount out too far. The other way to do the B-pillar would be to just cut a slit for the belt itself to slip though and not expose the entire area... that's what Canadian fastback B-pillars look like.

S14s in junkyards just aint as sourcefull.. and besides, how often do people sell seatbelts? only people who are parting out....

any one with a canadian or know if the jdm s13s, where the bottom point bolts up to? Im just curious as to where it mounts, becuase on the US chassis, this seems like teh only place to bolt it to.

I had a question w/ your lower mount installation.

When I put Canadian belts in, everything bolted up but I had to remove the carpet to get rid of the belt that came up through underneath the carpet. (did put it back afterwards, of course)

Anyways, while down there, I removed a white plastic piece that was bolted next to the seatbelt --- if I recall, I remove that and it had a spot for the canadian seatbelt to fit perfectly.... had to cut a wider hole in the carpet for the belt to go through but it was fine. (Btw: the hole had to be cut/moved farther to the rear of the car)

I'm too lazy for pictures but if you really want to see the hole I cut, I can post them here when I get home.

Hi folks,

Like many, I'm completely fed up with the stock S13 automatic belts on my '91 S13 after installing some comfy Sparco Torino seats, and I purchased a set of Sentra belts to install as replacements. My question is: is this as safe as stock belts? I'm particularly concerned about drilling the two extra mounting holes and whether or not that will be enough to hold the belt to the frame in case of collision.

Thoughts?

Good post HyperTek but I think people have been using B12 belts in S13s for years now. IIRC I've seen old posts in Fresh Alloy referring to the mod but never seen acutal pics of it.
Personally I don't mind the S13 belts - I had S14 belts from my part out and sold them. I'll replace them if they ever go bad.

My question is simply to ask anyone to sound off if they have done a Sentra seat belt swap into their S13, like I'm planning, and if they feel it is safe. Sorry to dig up this clunker of a thread, but safety first, right?

I would just surface some manual belts from a CDM or JDM S13. I picked mine up for $55 Shipped. *a

I have B12 Sentra belts on mine. They are very very sturdy, and much much safer than auto seatbelts in my opinion.

Just make sure you check the tensioner because sometimes they go bad on old cars.

Thanks G6civcx, good to hear. I'm hoping the bolt-holes match up and that I don't need to drill into sheetmetal, since the Sentra belt assembly I got from my junkyard doesn't have the two right/left bolts that the original poster shows in his pics, so I think I might have a direct fit (or a non-fit...we'll see!). Glad to hear they're sturdy.

Any other tips much appreciated...wish me luck.

The bolts there are just to keep the tensioner flush with the b-pillar. You don't really need the bolts. I don't have those bolts on mine and the tensioner works very well.
