Basic S13 Wiring for SR Harness ONLY

Ok I dont know if anyone else is in the same boat with me but this is going to be my first time doing a SR harness for a 240sx S13 swapping a SR20DET Redtop. Im planning on using heavythrottle for reference on doing the harness but I keep hearing from other sources that Heavythrottle has incomplete information. This is what I know

KA Harness has 2 plugs at the end
SR Harness has 3 plugs at the end

Re-wire the SR Harness so it matches the KA's two plugs (make the male "sr" match the female "stock plugs")

Extend the P/S Wires and the MAF Wires

From my understanding thats all I know. Is this how you guys did your harness? Everywhere on zilvia and zilvia affliates have incomplete information about doing the harness. Mods can you please sticky this thread and have it for reference for all zilvians doing basic DIY S13 SR Swaps. Hope this thread has a future. Thanks

I agree. It's confusing as hell. I will try to put together a complete wiring guide with lots of pictures later on in the week since I'm redoing my wiring any way.

For now, E and F are what Nissan chose to call wiring harnesses. I have no idea why. What year is the chassis? Go to zeroyon.com and download the FSM for your year. Try to read the EL section as much as possible. There are diagrams that label the location of the E and F harnesses.

I'll follow up with you in a bit and give you some more information, and maybe some pictures as well.

hmm just follow heavythrottles instructions on the ecu part and also the brown and grey plug and you should be fine.... you dont need to extend the maf and ps wire... if you unravel all the electrical tape and the shielding you can get a little more out of it and rewrap it how you want it....but i think i put my harness different from everyone else...but it still works

ok heres the confusing part, the ECU

Theres two sides to the ECU, one part goes out to the engine bay the other part goes out to the dash. In that link you gave it says you do wiring on the side that goes out to the dash. On heavythrottle it doesnt say anything about doing wiring on the dash part of the ecu.

So do you or do you not alter the Dash part of the ECU??

You modify the F1 plug, which is where the body harness meets the ECU. The KA and SR F1 plugs are different. That's why you need to do it.

Keep as much wire length as possible. Take the KA F1 harness and cut off the end that plugs into the ECU. Take the SR harness and cut off where it would plug into the SR body harness. This will allow you to solder together a custom harness that plugs into the KA body harness and SR ECU harness.

This is confusing as hell, especially if you have never done wiring before. Pictures would definitely help.

I would cut the SR plug on the body harness side, and not on the ECU side. This is in case you screw up you would still have some lengths of wire left to work with. Plus it's also easier to swap out ECU since it's not hardwired.

But sometimes the motorset will only come with the harness unplugged on the ECU side. So you do what you need to do.

HT's diagram is not incomplete. You match the colors up. All the wires are the same colors on both harnesses.

If you need to move a wire from Plug A to Plug B, do it.

Your CEL won't work unless you wanna sit there and figure it out.. not like it matters, cause your car won't pass visual anyway (assuming your state has visual inspection... and if it don't, why you worried about a CEL?), and its Federally illegal on top of that.

It's not incomplete. You just have to have a little knowledge of electronics and a lot of platform knowledge. They keep the details a novice technician would need to know off the site, but whether that's an oversight or trade secrets is up to you to determine.

I disagree, you need zero electronics knowledge and zero platform knowledge to wire up a S13 SR harness into a S13 chassis. If you can solder (or read a internet how-to on how to solder) and you're not color blind, you can do it.

I know people who literally couldn't read a wiring diagram for shit, let alone figure out how to wire this up without explicit instructions, and they were able to perfectly wire up their harnesses on their first try, using the HT diagram.

It's not rocket science in any way whatsoever; its literally match up the colors on the appropriate plugs, and move wires from plug to plug if necessary.

Done, seriously, like, I bet my 10 year old cousin could do it if I showed him how to solder and told him to match the colors up.

You're right, but you're smarter than most people. Every single SR wiring I've seen that was done privately has been a horrible hackjob. Even shops now and then screw up the wiring beyond repairs.

I don't know. I think it's something that's really easy. You don't need any heavy equipment. You can literally do it in 30 minutes while watching TV. You just need a little patience.

Everybody should really spend the time to fix their car the right way. I think the problem is people cut corners sometimes and they don't want to spend the time.

When I have more time I'll completely redo the wiring instructions. You'll see what I mean.
