SR20 Timing chain question
Hello, im getting ready to change my timing chain and i was wondering if anyone else pulls off the head when they do this? the fsm recommends taking off the head. I can see why because it would make taking the timing cover off much easier. Or should i just try to put the cover on with the head on. I have a friend telling me that he has left the head on his ka24e when he did his timing chain (timing cover is similar to an sr). Also, if i take off my head that means im going to need a new head gasket, right? What hg do you guys recommend?

I know someone who did this(changed something else though) and managed to mangle/separate his HG in the process.
Now he's got a built motor that leaks oil.

yeah thats what i was afraid of. I think ill end up just taking off the head as the fsm recommends. Any one here have any luck with cometic hg? i know alot of dsm guys running them and i really dont have any plans of running anything more than 15-18 psi on this motor down the line. and i guess ill just order some oem head studs. lol this timing chain change is going to end up being a little more costly than anticipated.

you do not have to take off the head to change your timing chain, im in the process on changing my chain and oil pump, all i did is lossened the bottom 2nd piece oil pan ( the big piece) and mangled the front cover off and you should be fine like that...good luck
