yes nismos14 i have no idea what you've been smoking but i would like some
anyways, a DOHC s13 vs the prelude VTEC the prelude still has some what of an advantage. the torque is the same, but the prelude has 200hp from the VTEC, but only above 4500rpm, which is around the optimal launching point for the lude. he weighs more, but not all that much more. and there is no such thing as an automatic VTEC prelude, unless he has put the VTEC head onto the h23a block. the prelude will run a very low 15 as long as the driver knows how to shift. in other words...89 fastback auto doesnt stand a chance. not in a drag anyways |

it makes sense..... if u put an intake on a 240..... and its supposed to net (just for arguments sake) 8 horsepower at the crank.... once it reaches the wheels its gonna be like 4 horsepower.... or less..... on a fwd drive car if its supposed to net 8 horsepower at the crank.... it will get about 6 horsepower once it reaches the wheels because it doesnt have to go through a drive shaft to get there.... makes total sense to me.

the FWD still has less horsepower loss in the drive train.

True, but even in high "400+" hp applications the differance is only about 5-10hp. Also the handleing and traction capabilities of a RWD car far outweigh the "small" powerloss through the drivetrain. One more thing, half shafts break much easier under load than drive shafts.

we're talking about a lude and s13 no HEAVY mods.... and not auto-x'ing...... basically dragging.....

nismos14 prelude vtec (in 4th generation, 93-96 (yes i know 4g is 92-96 but vtec didnt start until 93), since that is all that is relevant to this discussion) was only avialable with a 5 speed automatic. maybe you can get that gay sportshift shit with a 5g, but that doesnt count

and if you need verification you can see this at http://prelude.vtec.net

Why are we talking about dragging? The first poster did not say dragging. I was not saying that the lude wasn't faster in a straight line"unless of course we are talking about a Real RPS-13". I just disagree that FWD mods better. If you want to talk just about FWD vs. RWD on a drag strip than fine, how many FWD top fuel dragsters do you see?

155 hp @ the crank on our car ends up as like 137-138 at the wheels....... and 160 on a fwd prelude would end in like 146 @ the wheels....... less drivetrain lose

yeah have you ever WATCHED a FWD drag car? its hilarious the wheels spin forever, and half the time they dont even make it off the line, because those half shafts snap like twigs. of course they could get more power out of some of those cars, but that would just further decrease their chances of actually going anywhere. and SCC did a comparison on this a couple of years ago, to test FWD vs RWD vs AWD in various conditions on similar cars. with all three cars at similar power and what not the RWD was found to be the best drag platform by far, with AWD as second and FWD as dead last. i dont remember FWD winning much of anything in the comparison, it did outperform RWD on the "Slip and slide" wet track, but not much else.

Yes, I don't disagree with that. But if you are going to make the statement that FWD mods better, don't base it soley on 6hp of parasitic drive train loss. Modding itself denotes anything that can be done to the car. Hp is just one part of the big picture. Even hp has more to do with the engine than the drive type.

im just talking about street cars with bolt-ons i agree with u guys on the drag racing and stuff..... but im talkin about two cars lined up at a light ready to race on a normal road with nothing more than bolt-ons

but with basic bolt-ons that statement is true.

give me some dyno sheets to prove that, but theres really no way you could, unless you could find a car that uses the exact same engine in a RWD and FWD platform, then use the same part to mod the engine and see which one gets better WHP gains

thas true too..... plus EVERY car is different.... even two ka24de's with the same mods wouldnt put the same power...... i guess i have a moot point <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

No. IT IS NOT TRUE! It depends on the engine. The engine is what makes the hp not the drivetrain. If you put a filter on a Vitz, and one on a Camero, did it still mod better just because it losses les hp? No. Why not? The Camero has a more capable engine. Drivetrain doesn't enter into it. Modding is not just drivetrain loss! It is the whole thing!

please getting so worked up over things, we've already established that. tlaking drivetrain in general, thats why i said compare the same engine with a FWD and RWD drivetrain, its understood that you cant make such generalizations as "FWD cars" and "RWD cars"
