New Shift Knob Idea
So I was thinking of what shift knob to buy and remebered two things.
#1. Im a cheap bastard #2. I can make my own So My idea involved a M10 1.25 hex flanged nut, 10mm washer, 2 skateboard truck bushings, and a skateboard wheel of your choosing. All of this is really straight forward and the only modifying needed is you will need to cut the bushings down to fit on the shifter with the washer and nut. If you take some clippers or a small hand saw you need to cut about half of each bushing off(I used a sharp set of wire dykes). You can see the bushing in my pics. But anyway, please tell me what you think. Its just a different path to spending $50-125 on a shift knob. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not a bad idea
Definitely unique and good usage of creativity with what you got If you actually skate too thats cool cause it speaks out about your own personality with your car Me personally I wouldn't do it but who cares its your car have fun with it!

3 problems
1- The wheel is too big. 2- You need a plain white urethane wheel to really look good. 3- You need to come up with some sort of endcap to prevent the nut and shifter itself from hitting your hand. It is a good idea though it just requires a bit better execution and more thought to really look and feel good IMO. |

The soft longboard wheels would be alot better. They're usually bigger as well. Regular boards wheels are too hard and too small to be comfortable. Originality is where its at.

I might change the wheel later, but this is what I had laying around. I have a cool set of Spitfire wheels that are brand new, but im going to use them in the near future. As for baker, umm... not my choice of wheel. Im thinking Pink Autobahns or something to that effect. I will post a pic as soon as I get a new one.
What you cant tell from the pics is the nut sits about 1/8 of an inch above the wheel and can be lowered or raised by tightening or loosening the nut. And the wheel is almost the same size as the stock shift knob(diameter). Its quite comfy. ![]() Also, I do skate, been doing it for about 13 years. Want to play a game of skate for car parts ???

If I was in NC I would take you up on that! I haven't skated for about 5 years though, since I tore my ACL skating.

I hate shift knobs/shifters that spin! It needs to be completely tight and solid.
I used to skate and I think the idea is creative. But I would use a stock shift knob before a skateboard wheel. It looks uncomfortable.

The first car I ever had was an 88 mazda b2200 skate truck. It had a rhino liner, snug top, sick wheels, skate stickers(tasteful not ghetto), and silver/blue flames and a white body. It was a pimp little truck. I wanted a shift knob to fit the truck. So the skate shop I spent all my money at hooked me up. I will have another one someday.
That is why I have an extra wheel.

i think it is a badass idea.. a spit fire wheel would set it off better and as far as comfort a skate board wheel is no bigger then ur hand.. and if u want a larger wheel that fits snug to ur hand u could always find one.. i skated for a few years so that idea is sick dude.. but i do think the nut needs to be more flush, maybe think of finding some sort of cap.. like a hub cap for a skate board wheel lol..

I will try to get it in the car this week, I just need a place to do my five speed swap. I will go down to a skate shop and pick out another wheel more befitting.
