KA surges then idles at 1500

Still can't get my friend's s13 running right. made sure the TPS was set right, and it surges between 1500 and 2200 rpm, and eventually settles down to 1500rpm even after warming up. Pinched IACV hose shut, and didn't change anything. I'm thinking a vacuum leak, but he swears up and down he connected everything right. Any ideas?

I'd double check the vacuum hoses. Maybe hook up a vacuum gauge and see what it reads. Have you cleaned out the IACV anyways, to see if it helped at all?

vac leak. all day. I think...lol....
check in rear the diapragm? the line always hits the lip pf firewall...it on lower side a 1/4 line?

Well we thought maybe the IACV was the culprit, so we swapped the entire lower section of the manifold with new gaskets (from the motor I'm going to drop in my car), and still nothing. I thought it was the CTS as well, but he told me his was brand new.

Hmmm. Try the coolant temp sensor for the ECU maybe. Those things do crazy things to KA's. They can mess with your idle, fuel economy, and your soul.

Its new. I honestly can't figure this thing out. Would the A/C compressor turn-on lead not being connected have anything to do with it?

I don't think that would affect it. My car idles fine without the a/c stuff in there, and I just left it all unplugged. Hmm. I'm kind of at a loss too. If I think of something I'll post for sure.

I'm at a 100% loss for ideas here. I'm seriously about to dig through my boxes of shit and find one of my old s13 ecu's and see if maybe the ECU is shot somehow.
