cooling problems

car is running hot. atleast the temp gauge in my cluster says so. changed the thermostat. flushed system, checked hoses, and did compression test, and it was fine. Could it be my radiator cap? i looked at it and its pretty nasty, was thinking about goin to a used car dealership i saw and hehehe taking another 240 for a spin and accidently come home with a new radiator cap. ive also heard that when you change the thermostat and flush the system. that you need to release the air pressure from the system, could that be the problem and if so how would i do that?

You need to insure there's a minumum of air in the system. There's a small bleeder screw on the intake manifold where it meets up with the head that you can use to insure this happens. Making sure the car is level, open up the screw, and fill your radiator with coolant. Once fluid starts coming up through that bleeding hole (and after you've squeezed the upper radiator hose - air tends to get trapped there), close it back up.
As far as radiator caps go, getting a Stant .9 bar from AutoZone would work.. Or just pay a few extra bucks and get a Nissan cap.
