Streets of Willow Springs

For all those who couldn't make it out to Willow Springs on 4/18...it was a blast. The traction control group was by far the best! Not only were there some awsome drifters...it was great to meet so many new people. Since this was my first real event I just wanted to say that everyone there rocked. You guys made me realize two things...How awsome the drift community is...and that I need to get my car done asap so that I can get it drifting!
Hope to see you all soon,
-Georgia-

damn toe in. measured it earlier in the week
rear was 1/2 toe in! in the rear too! OUCH! seriously hindering the car's respsone and my performance.

waiting for the hard tie rods to get here and i get full front and rear alignment to perfection. see u all at DD5 or sooner, bring your helmets too, so we can get you some rides w/ us or our freinds who drive at them too

Hey Aaron,
So glad that you posted on my thread...I couldn't remember what your user name was, so I was hoping you would post so that I could find out.

The shop is called Full Speed Performance...it is located on mission street behind the Sabieng Thai restaurant. It's 1224 A mission. The cross street is Laurel. The phone number is 831-459-9690.

I will definitly be at DD5...hopefully the car will be finished, (and YES, it will be dope!). I had such a nice time, and I can't wait to hang out again!

No, I just sold it. It was going to be too much work to install. I'm gonna get a Border one in a while. I want to learn to drift with my basically stock susp. and chassis so i know my car really well and can predict how it will react. Then i'll upgrade to better susp. and get more power. But a cage is always a good idea.

DD5 will be my 1st day drifting.... i'm so amped. I just stripped out my rear seats, spare, and some carpet. It definately made my rear end looser.

how much weight do you think you shaved off in doing that?

think a rear strut tower brace would make a difference?

If it were an S13, taking out spare and rear seats would lose you about 40 - 55lb, I'd guess. Spare is about 25-30lb, and seats are 20-25lb.
Rears STB would help some, but as far as I'm concerned, STBs don't do as much as people say they do.
Also, keeping the spare tire in there will make it easier to swing the rear out; I now keep a full sized spare in there for just that purpose.

I was noticing the full sized spare. I was wondering why you had it. Yeah, I would say I shaved about 40-50 lbs. I find it is way easier to swing the back out now than with the spare in it. Why is that. Am i mistaken? I noticed Aaron didn't have anything back there. Is it personal preference?

Well considering stock steelies with tires weigh over 40, it makes sense that a spare would weigh 25-30 lbs.

now i'm curious how much a stock steels with tires weight.
can someone weigh their spare tires? i wanted to see how much weight can one save.

sound deadening/tar/plastic trims from passenger cabin to the trunk/carpet = 35 lbs on S13 coupe.

You'd better believe it! If you go through the whole car and dig out all that tar crap, it comes out to probably over 30lb. It's crazy!

If I had a scale, I'd weigh my wheels/tires for you, but I don't, so... I'll leave that to someone who does.

And yes, taking the spare tire out is personal preference... I actually find the whole car easier to throw around with a passenger and spare, but that may or may not have anything to do with anything.

hello!
it was nice meeting all of you guys! sorry i wasn't very talkative, i was kinda bummed out due to my super-unda-ma-steering-anglular-tie-rod-configuration, even though i got to swap out my bent tie rod before the end of the day, i couldn't even get a decent lap in... i cringed everytime i had to yank the e-brake. anyway, it was nice meeting s13chica and rbs14, i'll see you guys at dd5!

also, thank you driftheaven for all your help! thanks to dousan, adey, and itsybitsy240sxey for hanging out and helping me out as well! you guys are the best. i got to watch you guys for a few laps, and it was very inspiring to see all of you guys improve so much! andy got some VERY nice footage of you guys... i'll try to upload them or send them to you guys soon.

although i did horribly bad at this event, i still had a lot of fun. track drifting is very different from them parking lot events, i can't wait to do it again. with some less toe out this time...

danny

No...It wasn't a special invite event. All you had to do was register ahead of time...it was 100 bucks. You also had to pay 10 bucks to get in...but it was well worth it.

that's what subaru's are made for... off track rallying.

regardless of who invited him, everyone was there to learn and off track is part of learning as far as i'm concerned.

true that...rally inspired...just seemed a little on the dangerous side...i saw him almost get in/cause numerous accidents..

and of course it's all about learning...if you don't go off track i guess you could argue that you're not pushing it hard enough..

not trying to say he shouldn't have been there or be a dick...just an observation...
