With intakes, you really get what you pay for. When air comes into the engine, it can only come in when the valve is open. Air is always coming through the filter though, and the air that doesnt get let into the engine bounces back, and when air is pulled into the engine again through the valves, the air that bounced back gets pushed back by all the air coming in when that valve opens. Basically, a tuned intake will be the right length and that pulse will get to the engine at exactly the right time, when the valve opens. I'd go brand name if I were you. GOOD brand name, as in AEM or Injen, not arospeed or weapon r or something.

There are MAJOR problems with thinking you are ever going to get much benefit from a tuned intake.

the biggest problem is that ALL engines are slightly different when they caom off the assembly line. a close second is that the tuning reverberation or bounce will only hit the valves at a fixed interval throughout the car's rev gamut. That means, a tuned intake will only deliver benefit if your car is rev-ing at a certain speed. at every other RPM you get NO benefit from having a tuned intake, other than it is probably really fat and polished internally.

at that certain RPM rate, you will get the effect of a low boots turbo charger, but who wants to keep their engine at 5800 RPM throughout an entire race though?

in short, don't worry about getting a tuned intake, get one that is nice and fat + is polished internally.
