Help...Dumb question...

Sup fellas, im new to the 240 community and car community at that.  I just got my 240sx SE Coupe, 5 Speed Manual OD, 2.4L 4 Cylinder 155hp on Monday 01/28/02.  I seriously dont know what to do with it first..Thinking about intake and exhaust but i dont know if thats the best way to start, i would like your opinion.  Also what is the difference between s13 and s14?  Remember im very new when it comes to cars so please type in lamen terms.  If possible can someone give me a link where i can learn about cars in general?

yea you should plan what your gonna do first. &nbsp;id suggest going turbo ka but thats just me. &nbsp;anywho if your goin turbo and ka get a zigen fireball and an injen intake. &nbsp;i got the injen i just gotta raise 50 more bucks for the zigen.

Whats the point of having both the zigen fireball and an injen intake? i thought a car had one intake and one only...do the zigen fireball and injen go together or somthing or they 2 different brands...?

s13 = 1989-1994
s14 = 1995 - 1998

extra's....
s14a = 1995-1996
s14b = 1997-1998

front lights/hood/fenders are different. tail lights of s14a is smooth while s14rb have ridges.....thats aperance wise

stock engine = 89-90 =&gt; ka24e(soch) or 91-94 =&gt; ka24de(doch)

full n/a on stock engine
turbo ka24de

swap:

vg30dett( super rare krazy your god swap)

S13 is what you got....pop-up lights.
Coupe has trunk, Fastback has hatch.
Years 89-93

94 was all convertibles
89-90 was Single overhead cam
91-94 Dual overhead cam

S14 Long oval headlights.....with trunk. (years 95-96)

S14a Flat nose hood with squinty &quot;mean looking&quot; headlights. (97-98)


As far as mods, before anything get all rust taken care of. &nbsp;Then, go through and fix all the little things (broken knobs, repaint shift console, use BlackMagic (liquid silicone) to blacken up your turn signal and wiper knobs.

After market mods. &nbsp;Well.....personally Im starting with the little things. &nbsp;Check out a cool dash kit for the 240SX at this link. &nbsp;

Next I would get the Injen Cold Air intake (people here call them CAI)

Then I would get custom exhaust. &nbsp;Catback exhaust, not some huge &quot;bomb&quot; muffler like some ricers do. &nbsp;I would get 3 inch piping incase you ever upgrade to a turbo. &nbsp;People say 3&quot; is loud without a turbo, but I've heard it..and it sounds sweet. &nbsp;

Apexi, Greddy, or Blitz.

Uhh... I've had my OBX on for a little while now and have no complaints about it. &nbsp;It's definitely worth the money, to say the least.

Another question.. I have a digital speedometer..For thoughs of you that dont know, it reflects the speed im going at onto my windshield at the lower left hand corner...Would this cause problems in wiring if i was to put a dash kit?

ok your new so i wont get mad. &nbsp;the injen is the intake. &nbsp;thats what the air goes through to get to the engine. &nbsp;the zigen fireball is the exhaust. the burned gasses (exhaust) pass though that to exit. &nbsp;the zigen is the exhaust. &nbsp;you should get both. &nbsp;not nessicarily the brands that i mentioned but those are basic mods.

The dash kit lights up the needles..so.....the needles you have will be lit up. &nbsp;Digital dash would probably need the 3 needle kit (RPMS, gas tank, and temp). &nbsp;Even if you dont get the colored face gauges, get the needle kit. &nbsp;It uses a laser diode to &quot;shoot&quot; the light throught the clear plastic of needles. &nbsp;That site also sells bulbs to light your speedometer better. &nbsp;They have a kit to get the diodes, bulbs, and white gauge covers. &nbsp;If you order it, make sure you specify that you have the digital dash and your year. &nbsp;I ordered that kit tonight, so in about a week or 2, I'll let you know how it turns out.

5Zigen Fireball is a cat-back exhaust, not an intake.

Before you do anything, learn the car. &nbsp;Drive it at least a month stock...especially since you're just getting into cars. &nbsp;Learning the car will help you plan what you want &nbsp;to do with it in the long run. &nbsp;During this initial &quot;introduction&quot; to the car, make sure the car is in good working order. &nbsp;Fix anything that's broke before you upgrade stuff that isn't. &nbsp;
Ok...you've learned the car, you've fixed everything, and you know what you want to do with it.
I would suggest upgrading the suspension first...especially the tires. &nbsp;This is what keeps the &nbsp;car connected to the road. &nbsp;Check into some &nbsp;good spring/strut combos, &nbsp;good set of tires (rims too if you wish), sway bars, strut tower bars, &nbsp;and maybe some polyU bushings (check your tension control rod bushings...$10 says they're shot). &nbsp;Now you can handle some power. &nbsp;This is already rather lengthy, so decide what you want to do and ask more specific questions.

if i were you...i would drive bone stock for about a year (depending on you cash flow)...then turbo or swap...i made the mistake of starting with an intake and exhaust...and it's been like that for the past 5 yrs...boo! &nbsp;but that's just my opinion...

well, in my case...i bought the intake and exhaust first...then ran into a little money shortage...now my car has been the same for the past 5 yrs...if you had a steady income...then ####, buy whatever you can whenever you can...i just think that saving up for &quot;the big one&quot; is a better idea...again, my op...

because you get disapointed with bolt ons, and use up your funds. i know what's he's talking about! i could have had a very nice engine. but it's my first car i ever fixed up, and i was excited, and it was a learning experience. the next car i buy it will stay stock hp wise and i will hang out with the message board for a year to learn everything about what i can do like turbo/supercharger/engine swap instead of spending money on intake exhaust and the other things

Wow..you guys have given me a lot to think about and i appreciate it. &nbsp;Are kits better to put on last after intake and exhaust? I want to add on gradually but want my car running and looking nice at the same time..Ive seen people put on different color kits from ther car and then go months before paint job <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('> &nbsp; &nbsp;Im also having trouble finding a nice kit for my s13 coupe 92'..I personally like Cwest Aero but the only problem is i have a &quot;Coupe&quot; and that kit is for hatchbacks. Not many nice kits are out ther for a coupe that ive seen...If you know of any good ones please respond.
