Yens going up + Silvia coming back = expensive parts for us

Yens just keep going up! And I heard that in japan, people are all of a sudden really into silvia again. That means everything will get really expensive here soon, if it didn't already. This blows, i just wait til those yens come back down again.

japanese yen is becoming stronger. makes parts more expensive for us because our dollar is worth less. That combined with Higher local market demand will increase prices for parts since supply is not necessarily increasing.

um..this is a silver age of Japanese sports cars:

EVO, STi, 350Z for sports

RX-8, G35 for sport and pimpness

RSX, WRX for mid tier sports

Mazdaspeed Protege/Miata, SE-R sentra for club sports...

we haven't even begun talking about the inevitable RX-7, supra replacement, 2007 NSX, or 2007 GT-R

And you even have healthy domestic/euro competition with the SRT-4, and Mini COoper =P

new rx-7!!! *drool* but yah i agree with optionZero; the only thing we're missing is a lower end RWD car. most 20kish cars are FF. otherwise there's alot of options now.

i also thought there was pretty consistent interest in japan for the silvia. i didnt realize it tapered off and came back again?

my good friend imports parts from japan, and he told me that it sucks so much right now. everything is becoming more expensive, adding to the fact that most junkyard owners know that some "junks" are worth a fortune in the US, so they make the prices even higher. i was supposed to get coilovers from my friend, but now, it's not as cheap as it was a 2 months ago, and i have to wait until god knows when.

My dream is a 270sx from nissan on a shrunken down rwd FM platform with a shrunken 2.7L VQ series 6cyl or enlarged 2.7L QR-series 4cyl ...makin about 190-210hp/200lb-ft tq, >2800lbs curb weight for $21k

basically, an S14 level car for today. Displacement and n/a for the american folks, rwd for sport compact lovers who dont have anything like it, and big torquey engines.

Drop the top of the line Sentra SE-R or its replacement to the 17k mark, or kill it all together

right smack between the 350z base and the sentra.

It might be too tight a fit, but it would kick too much ass and make too much sense for us to ever happen.

When is Toyota gonna bring the Altezza to the U.S? not the lexus girl's car...a real Altezza

give us the 200hp 4cyl, rwd Alteza platform with a coupe body...call it a Corolla GT-S buahahahhah

oh yeah, and Mazda needs to cram the Renesis into a Miata hardtop coupe

I second what deedeedum said. I spoke to an importer and he also said that the junkyards now realize that their junk parts are worth something. That and they would rather sell it to us Americans because we are more willing to pay a higher price for it. Which in turn means that the locals have to pay the premium to match us. Overall driving prices all around higher. He said that front clips use to come with some after marker parts, now the importers strip the car of everything that isn't necessary for a swap and sell them separate.

double edged sword. us dollar at lower relative value makes US goods cheaper abroad, boosting demand for US junk abroad and helping any US companies that export products. on that note i'd be really surprsied if the amount of SR20's being imported had a real effect on the japan / US currency rate.

The economy is in a slum and not many countries out there are liking the U.S. right about now. This was all bound to happen...I just hope its not going to be like this for a LONG duration of time.

adjusted for inflation, a base Z is around the price you would have paid for a 240sx. they were like 21-22 in the early 90s. that point seems to go unnoticed quite a bit.

I belevie my loaded 93 HICAS fastback listed at 25,300. Thats what the previous owner said....

Given inflation...kids 10 years from now will be driving evos and 350s

or people who were "kids" when these cars came out and couldnt afford them.

that'll be sick when you can buy a z33 for 5 grand and twin turbo or swap on RB motor
