ORC/Ogura clutch problems
So I've got an ORC 409 single plate clutch in an s14 with a notch top sr. My TO decided to grenade itself the other week so I dropped the tranny and replace it with a new one. I used the TO/carrier sleeve combo recommended in this thread http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/297607...e-carrier.html
The previous owner installed the clutch originally and I'm not sure what TO bearing he used. All I know for sure is it was bigger in diameter. I found a PN on the bearing seal, but a search didn't yield anything. So my problem is I don't have enough adjustment to get the clutch to disengage properly. I've adjusted the rod from the master cylinder all the way to the end of its range and the clutch engages just enough to get in gear. I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into similar problems and can offer advice before I start replacing things. I was thinking the slave first, then the master and if that fails start looking at longer offset carrier sleeves. Oh, and I've bled the system thoroughly. the pedal adjustment is just to take up freeplay, extending it all the way would not make a difference.
z32 slave have a shorter throw than SR. its possible that one is installed in your and is causing disengagement issues. |

Slave cylinder wont help you. If the overall thickness of the TOB and carrier is too thick, it will be pre-loading the clutch since its gonna be pressed on the back of the transmission shaft seal. Try the stock carrier off the KA/SR since they're the same first.

Sorry, had to re-read your issue and I think I'm tracking now. You're issue isnt the TOB being too long but it being too short. So you're using the stock carrier already and what TOB did you ended up getting? I know my 409D came with a new TOB and I always assumed that it was shorter than the stock thickness. But for your situation, seems like you need more thickness.
If I'm correct, then my suggestion for you would be try to get a Z32 TOB (they're larger), lay the current TOB you have side by side to it and see if its slightly thicker than what you have. Run that if it is slighly. Another idea, ghetto but an idea, run a longer slave cylinder rod to give you more angle to push on the fork. |
