I'm about to buy a 1996 240sx SE, fully loaded, 5 speed, almost perfect condition outside and perfect leather interior with only 40k miles (he didn't drive it much I guess) for $10,200. What do you all think? Thats just under bluebook value and the dealer offered him 9,900 so I couldn't get him down any lower than 10,200. Any tips, concerns, ect...?

Thanks in advance,
DSC

I'm not sure how that price sits in relation to the whole scheme of things. Mileage is great, only 40k. . . Check to see if it has items like ABS and a limited slip differential (Current hot item on the forum). Anyhow, Congrats and welcome to the club! :-)

THAT'S A GREAT PRICE!!!! In April, I bought my 96SE 5-speed with 63000 miles, no alarm, no ABS or LSD, with power sunroof, power windows and locks (which I understand are standard on all S14's), tinted windows, and immaculate cloth interior for $10900. That was still below book value. I'd take your car for that price. Yours has very low miles for a 96, and leather in good shape. I think $10200 is a very good price.

I looked up the NADA average retail value of your car. Avg retail is $11700.

depending on the area, that price might be high.
I got my 95 240sx se with 60K miles, 5spd, power all, moonroof, no accidents for 11500 CDN. That's about $7700 US. There were 2 others in the area, and they were both selling for around $14000CDN (about $9000 US).

Just bring the guy 9000 cash, not cheque, and see if he bites. Chances are, he will.

im gonna buy a 97' 240 sx se and finding one is a real bitch. i got less than a year till i get my liscence so i can buy one. It seems that as soon as i find one its sold in one week. not only that but finding a manual is really rare, and i refuse to buy auto. I also wanted to know 2 other things. 1) whats the going rate for one in really good to excellent condition w/ about 60thou miles and 2) what are the horsepower and torque ratings for one of these baby's. i heard 155 and 165 respectively but does that aply for the se model? if you can answer any of these questions please please please help me. thanks

John

Dave: You scare me

As for prices, I paid $1200 for my first, an '89 SE auto in adequate condition. Had to fly to Florida to drive it back, but my sister needed another car to move her stuff in anywho . My current car was $4700 for a '92 SE in good condition (cars in Nevada are quite spendy, this is over $1k below blue book!)

Minime: SE hp and torque ratings are the same as the rest of the series. The '97 SE I believe has a better suspension and alloys, with more interior goodies. HP and torque should be 155 and 160 respectively.

Buy it and run! I'm sure there aren't plenty of them to go around, and for that price and mileage you're good to go. They do retail for around $9K (I work at a Nissan dealership) so... yeah. GET IT!

Ok, The title is on its way up to VA from NC so the car's going to be mine on wednesday or thursday they said. He was originally asking 10.8k, I couldn't get him any lower than 10.2k so thats what I'm paying. Oh and I found out, it does have ABS and LSD, also there was a sticker on the window saying it has an alarm, so I'm assuming it has keyless entry and stuff but i'm not 100% on that. s13grl: yeah, there are only 3 for sale in the area and this was the only SE model. They are kinda hard to find but must not be in big demand here, this guy had his on sale for 3 weeks before I found it, lucky me. Anyway, thanks for all the replys. I'll let you know more once I get it.

Pretty cool man,
Congrats on your new car! You'll love it! I've only seen one for sale here in tally, it's been at the lot for a few months now. I don't really like the color on it though. which is probably why it is still there! Though I will not revel which color it is for fear of offending anyone here! BTW what color is your new baby?

Heh, my first post. I still haven't drove her naked but I did build her a ltl website. Man, I still love driving this car as much as I did when I first got it! Almost 50,000miles on her now tho I just can't drive her enough :):) BTW, it had ~43,000miles on it not 40 like I originally though. 7,000miles in three months eek! Am I the only one who drives that much?

i would pay $2000 for a 240 with salvage title, front end damage, bodies in trunk etc. etc., if it was in great condition other than maybe a wrecked front bumper. maybe a little more. im keeping on the looking for something just like that

Yeah good condition and all no accindents. It needed new belts, the oil pan as small leak and the leather in driver seat is a little mess up. I took it to mechanicls several times to check it out and no big deal. In NH you can find really cheap cars. I'm happy.
