I'm really considering the group buy of Eibach Prokits that are being advertised in the Group Deals/etc section. I have one question about it though.

I currently have 100% stock suspension. If I buy these springs, will they work w/ my existing stock struts? Or will I have to buy new front/rear struts. Which brings me to another question--do we have struts in the front, and shocks in the rear, or struts in front & rear?

Thanks in advance

I've been running Eibach Pro Kit springs on stock struts/shocks for about a year now. No problems.
The front suspension uses struts and the rear uses shocks.

Thanks so much guys!

How hard are they to install? Is this something my bf and I can do ourselves? Do you recommend I find someone to install them for me?

you need a spring compressor. most of the install should be straightforward. I could've done this myself, but the mechanic insisted, oh well.

What is the difference between a schock and a strut? I thought that they were the same thing.

Thanks DSC!! That site is AWESOME! But now I'm thinking I should try to get new shocks and struts, since I have 75000 miles on my car and the boots are torn to crap anyways.

I may just get the springs and install them after I get new shocks & struts. Thanks for that site!

s15dude, diff is only in design......they both do the same thing.....dampen the suspension, absorb the bumps. u can have ft shock-rr shock, ft strut-rr strut, ft strut-rr shock, don't recall ever seeing a ft shock-rr strut combo. to my knowledge struts r always coilover design with spring surrounding it, shocks can be coilover design (like the rr of 240) OR have spring (coil or leaf) located nearby.

from personal experience installing both springs and dampers, i would suggest doing it all at once if you can afford it. if you do it yourself it will save you around 2-3 hours of sitting on the garage floor time. if you take the car somewhere it'll save you over $100 if you do it all at once. if you do decide to do it yourself, make sure you got a breaker bar, and some vice grips, as well as sockets ranging from 10mm-16 or 18mm. ( i can't remember what size the steering knuckle bolts were) if anyone needs help with the install let me know, i spent multiple weekends working on this, i probably took apart/put back together each corner at least 3 times.

Even though your stock shocks may last for a while with the pro-kits on, its not generally a good experience.

If you haven't done it yet Get the Pro-kit with kyb AGXs, and yes you can do it yourself with a helper, just respect the danger that is enherent in using a spring compressor, and it should be very straight forward.

My buddy and I did it from (90 to 12:30) both of our first times doing suspension...I just wish that KYB had the AGX at the time...God-Damnit!

But the pro-kit is awesome

yes pro kit is cool.. i have better cornering at the limit.. it took the pro kits a good year to blow my shocks.. hah so thats a pretty good time, plus the shop that installed my springs said my shocks were going to blow soon.. so i guess its not too bad on the shocks.. but when they blow, haha you better change em.. the ride gets ugly rather fast.. at least my agx's are in, just need to get em installed..

A strut is a type of shock. It is considered a strut as it acts as a structural positioning point of the suspension. You'll notice, in the rear, the shock has nothing to do with alignment or the position of the wheel relative to the suspension. On the other hand, up front, the spindle bolts directly to the strut...therefore, the strut must turn when you turn the wheel, and the compression of the strut affects the camber of the wheel. Stuff like that....
