What speakers for a S13 fastback?

OK, I need new speakers in my 1991 Fastback LE, badly. I know 4x6's fit in just fine, but I heard it was possible to make a bracket for 6.5's up front. What about in the back?
Anyone else make this bracket? Any pics or hints?

the rear speakers are under covers that don't have much extra room... i wouldn't think 6.5's would fit in the stock location.  Most of the time I see extra/ aftermarket speakers mounted on the rear deck...
You COULD have something molded with fiberglass to put 6.5's in the stock location... but that's a bit of custom work to do so....

Actually, I fitted 6.5"s in front.  I had to do a custom mount in 1/4" plywood though,  Sound really nice and looks stock.

yeah u ought to make a step by step install for those front 6.5"'s
but to answer ur question... all of the speakers are &nbsp;4x6's ijust bought 2 pioneer 4x6's can handle up to 400watts, picked em up for $60.. and i wired a 4 channel amp to the back 6x9's and 2 10's i rarely have my subs in though that's what i like about it.. i can take my subs out in like 2 sec. flat.. but i'll be posting a step by step on how to cut in speaker hole inot the back hatch for soem nice looking speakers

The amps are presently mounted in the trunk. The setup isn't complete so it kinda looks ghetto right now. &nbsp;The best part of this setup is that I can put the seat back to its original position and nobody knows that I have over 2000$ in audio equipment in the car. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>



Step by step front 6.5" setup:

1. Take out interior door trim.
2. Take out speaker assembly from the door.

There should be a black plastic enclosure in which the stock 4x6 fits.

3. In 1/4" plywood trace that enclosure with drill holes AND speaker hole.
4. Cut the speaker hole and plywood.
5. Replace the black plastic enclosure with the plywood part you just created.
6. Connect and mount you 6.5" speaker on the plywood.
7. Turn on your radio to check if the speaker works properly.
8. Replace interior door trim.

VoilÃ*!

By the way, be sure your wires CLEAR the window. That means, do some testing: pull up and down your window and check that wires are not in the way.

I have an s13 FB with 6x9's in the doors, cheesedick speakers in the rear (they were bigger than stock because I had to cut the metal frame to mount them), and two 10 inche subs in the trunk. My 6x9's are infinity with the white cone, I forget what model they actually are but I think they handle like 200w rms each.

What I am looking to do as I also need to add to the system in the future is either use the rear deck and mount my speakers on that or the space inside around the rear bench. Idealy I want component speakers the whole way around 8 in woofers in the kick panels up front 6 in. mids in the doors and also a set of 2 in tweeters up high in the front. then in back a set of component speakers likewise and two 10 in. subs under my hatch.

I did the front door speaker swap also. The first tiem i did it i used plywood and didnt like it, i suggest using a piece of sheet metal and cut it to the of hte old white speaker holder and then cut out a 6.5" whole in it towards the bottom or the speaker panel will bulge out. Paint the panels to prevent rust and use some weather stripping($0.99 from home depot) and put that between the door and your panel, then install the speakers into that. I would recommend using some XTC speaker baffles from Crutchfield as the first speakers i used got ruined by water damage.
I not only mounted the 6.5" driver in the door but i have Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 system and i mounted the crossover carefully behind hte doorpanel and then made circular holes up at vent level in the door panel in front of hte cloth. Tweeter sits flush inside door. Very professional looking, everyone asks me if its stock. As for hte rear speakers i made a plywood rear deck with some 1x1 supports to aid firmness. The deck is only about a foot and a half deep and holds Kappa 6.5". As for hte sub i made a custom screwless box out of 3/4" MDF and some 1x1 bracing in the corners inside the box. I then covered the box with sub sheeting from Best buy and lined hte inside with about 1" of polyfill. I have one 12" infinity Perfect with 475Watts going to it(which is 125W over RMS but it handles it fine, great SQ sub IMO). The box design is very thin so it sits with the sub firing up right under the rear deck, is very LOUD because i think all the bass bounces off hte rear hatch. Other than that i ran new speaker wiring to everything straight from my HU to the amps and what not. I then lined the doors and rear with dynamat type stuff(CertainTeed WinterGuard which is roofing material but is identical to dynamat), after that i lined my floors and rear carpet with .5" of carpet padding.
The entire installation not including speakers and cables and sub box materials cost only about $50 and a few weeks of after school work. I have almost no rattles at all, and my system sounds great. I would definatly do the 6.5" speakers up front but get components!!!! The highs are sOOO much better!
I might try to take some pics tomorrow after class and host them with instructions that make more since.

I will definalty use those speaker baffles and the sheet metal idea. The weather stripping too. I didn't think about what would happen if I got water in there and my entire door starts to get all soggy. I'll keep the 4x6's in the back. I am thinking MB Quart with some bass blockers back there. Up front, I still want to use a single 6.5" speaker. I am confused about the differences between a 2 way and a 3 way coaxial setup and which would sound better. I will also use your dynamat stuf fin the doors. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':thumbsup:'>
I doubt I will go for subs though. Audio isn't that important for me right now. I just want more than a 4x6 up front. Will a 6.5" sound good though?

you arent going to get crazy bass out of them but they are a good mix of midrange and bass. After having a sub i could never go back but i lived with some 6.5" for a long time. Just make sure you give them plenty of power, without enough power they are going to distort at really low volumes.
If the rain stops ill try to get some pics of my install tomorrow. I have to open my door back up cause i accidentally got the sticky side of hte winterguard/dynamat stuff stuck on the rods that control the locks on the doors so now i cant lock my doors or unlock them. hehe broke a key off trying to get in my own CAR! Not only that but ill get to test out my new Olympus digi cam.

I got a pioneer deck that says 50X4 watts and I was like "yeah sure, buddy " and the instructions said I could hook up subs to the deck so I tried it because I have a box without an amp. &nbsp;Well, whattaya know, this thing sounds great. &nbsp;I'm actually shaking my mirror without any distortion. &nbsp;I was quite suprised. &nbsp;I'm running two 10" Orion Xtr's with two MTX horn tweeters(basically it was a mtx two way box with orion subs) and its pushing them quite fine. &nbsp;Now I can actually take my time looking for an amp because I'm not going through that "I can't turn my radio up" stage when you first get your car.
