I'm curious if anybody knows if the 89-93 hatchback generation and 97-98 generation have interchangable fronts & backs. I have this great idea, probably already thought of, but I want to put a 97-98 Gen Front on a 89-93 hatchback. Does this work? I've only seen one mod close to this which is the JDM S15 front on a JDM S13.

[edit]
I was just thinking about this, is it possible to have an S14 (later version with the meaner looking head lights) and slap on an S13 hatchback end? So I could have the possibility of having the newer engine?
[end edit]

Thanks,
6

Which JDM cars are you talking about? S14? RPS13?
If you're asking if the 180sx(RPS13) front and rear can fit onto the older S13 chassis, it can.
I've already inquired this b4.
The chassis never changed. I also want to do this and do a complete TypeX conversion once I land myself a 91-93 hatchback.

Oh, I'm new to the forum. hehe. Yeah, that's my plan.

I'm assuming that by RPS you mean the 180SX or Silvia front (non filp lights) for the S13 model right?

I'm thinking about the USDM 240SX (S13 style with the flip lights with the hatched back) and sticking on the USDM 240SX (S14 Later edition 97-98) front on the car. I just think it would make the car look so great.

I know I posted this as JDM, like I want to do the JDM look so I can have the Silvia badges but I'll probably end up buying the car parts USDM.

yes they do go on but you need fenders, hood, and headlights, and bumper. and I beilieve there is some custom work that has to be done to the fenders themselves.

This has been done before. I've seen pics, it looks pretty badass. IIRC the s14 sil80 conversion is easier than the s15 sil80

I've only seen a S15 front w/ S13 coupe back. Now that... that was awesome. However, I still like the S14 (later years) front because of it's great mean head lights.

actually... putting on an S14 front custom would probably be just as difficult as the S15 (custom) front onto an S13 (of any type).
Although there are kits out there for the S14-->S13 and
S15-->S13 conversions, you're looking at fibreglass panels and a whack of money to get them to n.America
A guy in calgary did a complete custom job on his S13 coupe and put on an S15 front-end. I've been told that it looks REALLY nice considering the coupe's box shape.
it'd prolly cost you less to just find someone to import you the Strawberry Face S14 conversion. Too bad it's fibreglass..

Man i love how interchangeable Nissan parts are. I want to get an old junker 1989-1994 240SX and install the headlight assemblies, engine and 5 speed tranny from a Silvia. There was a full article about this in the newest issue of Sport Compact Car Magazine. They did it all for around $3000. I'm broke and REALLY REALLY want an import. My mom drives a 2001 accord V6. I like it and it may be mine in a few years, but i can't wait. Besides, i wanna drift (weeeeee). Yeah, I'm 17, broke and obsessed with imports. My question is, can you just attach the whole front clip from the Silvia? A S13 240SX with the front clip, engine and tranny of a Silvia. i HATE the popup lights (no offense anyone) but i think they look like shit. Oh, also in SCC mag, they've got a KA24DE powered 240SX with 438 HP. It looks pretty sweet also. All you Silvia and 240SX lovers should check out the new issue.

I HATE THOSE MAGAZINES!!! This is a rant. If you don't want to hear me be pissed about how crappy this thread is, skip right over it. If you are sick of people stopping by to post annoying topics, read on.

1) The s13/s15 swap bit: you better really want that car b/c it is going to cost an arm and a leg! Body panels for different generations are not bolt on. They require a LOT of custom work. The cars are different lengths, widths, and have different mounting points. Just buy the goddam Masa kit and be done with it.

2) A 240 that is a combination of all years sounds like a visual nightmare. Styling has a purpose. There is a reason manufacturers don't update cars by tacking pieces on one section at a time! I saw an s14 front/ s13 rear. It looked like something you would see in a commercial where they can't show you a real car and make some ugly bastard. Ugh!

3) I've never seen or heard of a kit to put an s14 F on an s13 rear - only custom work. The custom one looked like the front end was about 4 inches wider than the rear... actually, it just looked about 110% the size of the rest of the s13. Ugh. What is the s14 strawberry face conversion? s15 = ichi go = strawberry. Do you mean an s15 front kit for an s14?

4) SCC - don't believe everything you read. They are SCC. They get parts for cheap and have people that can install. I haven't heard of anyone doing it for this cheap in a long time. Try about $5K. Fvckin' drift fad... any fad based on a cartoon is suspicious. Yes - you just weld the whole thing on from the frame up... never mind that your steering wheel is on the left and the column is on the right! I think the Stanza... err... I mean Silvia lights look like shit - now we're even. no offense. And it's a KA+T... and I haven't even read the article.

4) Rant complete. You guys should go check out the NICO boards... they love this stuff.

There's a company that makes (or did make) a s14 to s13 conversion kit, they're called West Yokohama. I'm not sure if they have a website or anything.

Here's a pic of a s14 to s13 conversion. Geocities link, so cut & paste, cut & paste. Or if someone could host the pic that would be much appreciated. Later

Hipposleek: When you say it's a ka+t, are you reffering to the scc car? If so, you've got 2 articles combined. They have an article on Chris May's ka+t, and they have a couple of articles on a sr swap and another guys sr-powered 240.

BTW, the front clip comment was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you referring to the Black S13 coupe on Freshalloy that did the full metal panel conversion?

======

I dun think the 240 will be as big as a bandwagon as hondas are.
there aren't many 240s to go around.
