Just got my front clip... I'm Freakin out here.......

Well crap, I just got my front clip yesterday.... upon inspection I noticed oil was leaking from somewhere. I checked the oil and there was no oil, only a little bit on the dipstick. I checked the radiator for any signs of problems, perfectly clean, no sign of oil in fluid and no sign of coolant in oil. Upon inspecting further I noticed oil was in the air filter box. It came up through the turbo intake pipe into the air filter box, it seems fairly fresh on the MAFS. I noticed the where the oil dripped onto the floor is right under the turbo, it looks like the oil had coated the front clip on the turbo side, I can't see where it is leaking out of the turbo yet but it all seems to come from there. As the radiator fluid is filled up in the radiator and both the clutch master reservoir is filled and so is the brake master reservoir... I figured the oil had to be in the engine too. the company I bought the engine from didn't drain the fluids. Also this is my first time with a turbo engine... so I am a little concerned that this could be a very big problem. I know oil is supposed to be in the turbo, but I'm pretty sure flooding it can't be good. Also my MAFS probably damaged, although it looks clean other than run off at the bottom.
I got the front clip in 3 days from Phase1Motorsports out of El Monte Cali. Everything on the clip is in good condition except this turbo issue. I will have pics of this by later today.
If anyone can give some insight on this that'd be great.... oh, and I already searched.

Thanks

You mean Phase2motortrend? If you got it from there, then their engines should be in top notch condition. If there really is a Phase1Motorsports, then I'm never heard if them.

How much did you get it for?

I got it for $2000.00 plus $550.00 to ship it to my (door). Phase1Motorsports out of S. El Monte, I heard they do body work mainly but sell half cuts of cars from Japan. It's not Phase2, that's for sure, I know those guys, I bought some stuff from them before.

Turbo oil seals leak. If you have a sr sit for about a month, then start it, you will have some oil smoke, because some oil will leak through the oil seals into the turbo exh, and intake side. Its not uncommon to see a turbo thats been sitting over a year like yours flood the turbo with oil. Just run it soft the first few tanks of gas, and you should be ok.

As for the rest. Front timing chain covers allways leak most of the time. Reseal it. Either way their motors are allways in good condition. I wouldnt worry too much.

Good luck on your project.

Thanks, I figured that could be a culprit.

It can be. Also check the tighness on the turbo feed line out of the block for the oil. If that is leaking it will drip down the block roll down the oil pan to the lowest part which is the oil drain plug. That left me saying WTF many times at first.

What you should do to determin whether the motor is beat:

Pull the valve cover. Check for scar marks on the cams.

Look for sludgy oil.

Pull the rocker arms side to side. (check for excessive play)

Then pull the oil pan, hammer out any dents for clearance of oil pickup, then feel the #1 rod side to side for any excessive play.

Good luck with the swap.

Patience is better than blowing stuff up.

Phase 2 Motortrend has 2 locations, their fully loaded "Parts Office" is in city of Walnut NOW and their fully loaded "Motor Warehouse" is still in city of Industry.

I just got my RSR Exmag and my friend also pick up his Greddy G35 Twin Turbo kit w/FMIC from them last week. Top customer service and fantastic price!

Here's some pics, I checked the engine for any signs of wear.... none, All the oil came from the turbo as if it was full of oil during shipment, all fluids were not drained in the engine bay. It still has oil in it, radiator fluid is full(clean as hell too) brake fluid and clutch fluid are full. The minimal oil thats dripped onto the floor of my garage is directly under the turbo. The oil is not brand new, but it does look pretty clean like it was regularly serviced, the VIN plate reads 1998. The oil in the turbo and MAFS is what I'm worried about.
