question on upgrading ram on laptop

it can go both ways, it can have two solts with 256 in them or you'll be lucky and get one 512 card. Make sure you keep your memory speed the same like say you had a DDR 2700 to keep it within that same speed as a 2700. A lot of times the motherboards get really picky on what card you can use, so I hope you did some research before you bought it.

hmm, I checked out a review for your v505bx and it says it can only handle 1024max of memory.

you can check specs for your laptop here. it says the pcg-v505b series handles 1024 and oem speed was pc2100.

well i ran into a problem. my stick is a single 1gig stick and my notebook has two 256's installed. I took both out and put the one 1gig in and nothing. tried the other slot and mothing. put the old ram back in and now its fine again.
I got online with sony's tech support and they said i have to have both slots filled (ie 2 512's for 1gig) I asked "so what would happen if i put one of these 256's in with the 1gig" (total of 1280, my max is stated as 1024) He said its not recomended and might harm the notebook ![]()

as I stated before the max you can have is 1024, but thats weird that if you use just the gig stick it still doesn't work...

depending on the design of the motherboard. some have to have both slots filled because the 1gb module is too big for it to use in one slot. You need 512x2
