Alternator Plugs?

Well, I was looking at the FSM to see what plugs are suppose to go on the alternator.

I know there is the normal plug with the harness and then a power wire. Also, is there a ground that goes to the chassis? It specifies that there is, but it seems like I don't have one and couldn't really find a bolt where it could lead to. I do have a black wire from the harness that has a bolt type connector is just hanging there. This is a blacktop in a S13. I'm looking at a DOHC FSM.

My batteries aren't holding a charge.

you have to connect that black wire. there is a place on the alternator where it mounts to, it should have a capitalized "E" where it should go. Kind of hard to see though when in the car but it is the bolt hole below the main power wire to the alternator. Maybe that will fix it.

is it a bolt hole or a stud? This black wire has one of those U connectors with a hole that a bolt goes through.

Its a bolt hole. The bolt is pretty tiny, it has a 8mm head on it. Is the black wire about an 1/8th inch thick? if so thats the one.
