![]() I've been having problems with my signal lights recently and now its not working. My signals are not working, and also are my hazards. I checked the bulbs, they seem to be good. This happened after i left my turn signal on for about 5-10 seconds, and usually if i leave it on for that long or longer the blinker starts to fade and sometimes the fuse blows. I dont know whats wrong with it. Could it be wiring? I haven't touched any wires recently. argh! my hand is hurting from these hand signals!

Usually when the fuse blows like that it's either a bad ground or a short-circuit somewhere. Check your engine harness that runs under the left front fender. Then start looking at grounds. Make sure you have the right fuse.
Then check the flasher relay. Sometimes they go bad. Is this an S13 or S14? |

You test it by hooking up a 27W bulb and applying 12V power. This is detailed in the FSM as well. |

How are you checking the flasher? I'm not exactly sure what is checked when you connect it via the 3 prongs, the wires travelling to the resistor will receive power regardless but the resistor, spring wire, or contacts inside could be bad in different ways. I would not imagine that it would be powered if the flasher is broken. |

something like that had happen to me before and it was because i had the wrong bulb type of bulkb in the wrong place. i think i had a brake bulb there instead of a regular. just double check everything is in the right place

Are you sure that's the flasher? It could be your blower vent mode relay. The flasher should have 3 prongs.
When you look at the prongs of the relay, the left one is (+), the right one is (-), and the top one goes to the bulb. You test it by hooking (+) to a +12V battery power source, hooking the (-) to ground, and hooking the top prong to a 27W (#1156 should do the trick) bulb and then hooking that bulb to ground. If the relay is working, the bulb should be flashing like a turn signal. If not, the relay is broken. This is outlined in the FSM. Make sure you check the FSM for the proper orientation so you don't wire the relay backward and damage it. |

I had this problem for my s14. If all the fuses are okay then your problem maybe a bad hazard button/assembly. Yup its stupid how its designed, if the hazard button assembly is broken or not working correctly your signals will not work either. I bought a new OE button off of ebay for $20. Finally worked back. Seems like a piece of mechanical plastic was broken inside the button assembly. Then again this was a s14...

Okay, I just changed my tail lights, replaced the bulbs for the signals and tails. Okay, I haven't done that test yet. I can't find any relay under the steering column. anyone got a pic of it? Oh and is it a sign that the flasher is bad if the signals are on when i turn the parking lights on?

The car sounds like it has some wiring goofs. You need to spend some time with the FSM and go through the wiring. It's too hard to do this on the Internet because you don't understand how wiring works and the rest of us can't see the car.
I think you swapped the wiring around somehow. That's why your signal comes on with parking. Can't tell you what to do because you're not doing a good job describing your problem. Maybe you should take a bunch of pictures so we know what's going on. It's hopeless at this point. When you say it's working or not working, does it mean the bulb comes on but doesn't flash? Does it mean the bulb flashes but too quickly? What does not working mean to you? |

I just found the flasher relay it was hidden somewhere under the steering column. I couldn't see it but I pressed the hazards on and off to hear the ticking sound and spotted behind a metal part with a screw. So I replaced it and now it's good to go. Thanks for the help.
