Question cant rev past 5k in ever gear!! '92 ka...help!

every time i go up to 5k rpm, theres a limiter that wont let me go beyond that point. it happens in every gear...the stock limiter is supposed to be only on 4th and 5th ( if im not mistaken)...but this is weird. earlier today, it was fine. this happened all of a sudden. during the whole day, it has been running fine and even now it's running good. so what could cause the limiter?

it's so annoying...ineed ur help fellas

btw, my car is all stock besides 2.5in piping.

Do you have a HUD? I had the same problem when my HUD didn't work it wouldn't rev. Just a thought.

Hey whats up my car did the same but mine did it when i would even stay in neutral and rev it up.I use to bounce the rev limiter at 6900 and one day it started bouncing at like 5K even.I dont kno much about ka's but do you think it could be a Tps?I highly doubt that could be it or even maybe it could be the computer as my older brothwer was telling me.Look into it But I drove mine for months like that so im pretty sure it wont destroy your car just go easy on it.Cuz if you keep bouncing that limiter even though itis only at 5K u can cause some valve damage even bearing problems...good luck

hey u kno what come to thinkl of it how old is your distributor? i kno it sounds dumb but my brothers integra did the same thing.i kno nissan - integra two diff worlds but cars are basically built the same far between. If u have a bad rotor or sumthing in the distributor it might be screwing up the readings on firing.Check into timing to.One guy told me that if your crank bearing is going up that it screws your timing up but I dont kno if this is true.

Try the 5th gear switch on the trans...if the ECU always thinks your in 5th, it limits the revs to 5000 as a backup speed limiter.

Unplug it, see if the car will rev higher.

orion::S14 - where is the switch..which one is it? id really love to give it a try instead of leaving it at a shop for $$$. i remember the day that i was having the problem, earlier i just ran my tranny through the gears at a dead stop holding the clutch down. i just wanted to see which gears were sticky (it was really codl) and i remember going in and out of 5th a few times...couple times something didnt feel right. could that have caused anything?

d r i f t swift - when i bounce off the limiter...its bouncing fast..nothing slow about it.

thanks for the input fellas

get underneath your car and check for the 5th gear (OD) position switch. There are 3 switches on the tranny: Reverse Lamp Switch, 5th Gear Switch, Neutral Position switch in that order starting from the engine side. The 5th gear switch is the middle switch and is on the tranny side, NOT the bellhousing one. Pull that switch out and test for a bad switch. If its not a bad switch then make sure your neutral position switch, reverse lamp, and 5th gear switch are not plugged in the wrong order. IIRC the 5th gear switch and the neutral position switch have the SAME harness plug, the Reverse lamp harness is DIFFERENT, but the actual switches are identical, just one of the three harness is different. If your 5th gear switch is bad you can buy a new one at the dealership ($35), it will be named the same as the Neutral Position switch, same part #s

yeah i was talking about the speed limiter. i dont know about yours but when i hit 115. the car will cut out for a couple seconds until it slows down and then pick back up. which is what i meant. when you hit the rev limiter yeah the needle will bounce off. but yeah my problem is more like the speed limiter problem..
