alright well here's the specs on the car
1991 hatchback 168,xxx miles, manual the engine starts up right away every time it also idles at a normal level (around 600-700) but recently i'll be driving along, come to a stoplight or sign and i'll hit the clutch put it in neutral drop out the clutch the engine revs down but then it will either go all the way down and kill or it will go almost all the way down and bounce around and then die and i can't figure out what's wrong any input is appreciated. |

I idle air control valve can get dirty and stick closed, so the engine won't have enough air to idle and die. Shooting some carb cleaner down there can be all it needs to get un-stuck again.

Look at your air intake, you will see a hose roughly 3/4 inch in diamater going to a spot just above your throttle body. Thats what you are looking for. |

Right. The valve cover line is tee-ed off from the IACV line, or it was that way when I put in an Ijen intake. That was so long ago that I can't remember what the stock configuration looks like.
Side note: The valve cover breather is not the best idea. It won't hurt anything, but your engine likes vacuum there. |

I had the same problem.. it was as simple as cleaning the dirt off the connecter to the MAF... Fixed my problem AND worked for my friend's car too... sound stupidly easy.. but it worked twice..

carb cleaner added me an extra 1/2 mile a gallon. Definitely worth the $2-3 bucks it costs.

if you want to clean your maf, then you need to take it off and spray some cleaner on the heating element inside thats hanging down, youll know it when you see it. just let it dry though before running it again, dont try drying it with anything because you are liable to break it. If you want an awesome cheap way to find vacumm leaks, go to home depot and get a piece of PVC with one threaded end. then get the insert that threads into, it will be right next to it in the store, take a schrader valve like on a tire, and drill a hole into the PVC big enough to fit the valve in. then seal it and hook it up to your intake with a coupler you can find in the same place at the store. then run about 20psi through it from an air compressor with your motor off, no more or else you might damage the valves and what not, and open your throttle body manualy, this will pressurize your intake mani and every vacumm line off it. i am having the same problem, until i did this. and i have done everything else. hope that helps, its nice because your motor will be off and you can hear the leak very well and it makes it easy to pin point. cost like ten bucks to do.
