S14 SR owners *the motor*

Why did you choice this motor over a S13 red/black top? Any advantages to having this one over the other two? I know that other than the VTC the s14 there isnt much of a difference other than having the t28 with it. Does it suffer from the front cover leaking under high output like the s13's do?

Its been a while since i have posted on here...

thanks for your time
-Chris

Well down at a local shop where we have a t88 on a 14 the front cover starts to leak a bit and a couple of the guys that know more than me said its a design flaw of the SR. I still have yet to driven in a stock SR but I think I will be able to in the next couple of days before I purchase a front clip.

Dousan_PG Zenki which s14 motor should I try for? The Zenki or the Kouki? I know there is a difference in those.

zenki
i have a kouki..its fine both are fine but i cant get an enthalpy tune like i could IF i had a zenki. sigh..

dependson mileage andstuff
but motors are same really. i think PFCs are easier to find on zenkis as well was zenki ECUs

I have a friend that works for the Nissan Factory in Japan.
He said the S13's motor is easier to tune (for higher hp) then the S14 or S15.

really dousan? I dunno, it seems theres a lot more Kouki PFCs out there for sale in japan, i dont know about america though. I check upgarage and yahoo auctions japan a lot, and sometimes the magazine goo-parts and from what ive noticed, there are a LOT more Power FCs for Koukis.

then again most ppl dont buy their stuff from japan so i guess it wouldnt matter but just kinda somethin i noticed.

flytwa78- ive heard that aswell, but like you said its only for high HP applications. like 400 or more. which is a pretty big accomplishment.

all in all CKAMC i would just go with S13 motor if you drive a S13, or a S14 if you drive a S14. and just go for whichever motor has lower mileage/better condition. just because itll make things like aftermarket radiator and FMICs easier to install. S13 parts are also a little bit easier to come by from what ive noticed.
both replacement and aftermarket.
no SR stays stock for long anyways =) except mine cuz im broke

I chose s13 motor cuz for one its cheaper and plus you dont have to rev as much as s14's for the torque.

yeah exactly haha i get my stuff thru friends in japan its easy as shit but fo the average joe, its not so easy.

oh other advantage of s14 sr over s13. power! add a boost controller do the regular bolt ons u'd do with any SR (exhaust eblow, downpipe testpipe intake, etc etc) some injectors..bam...more power. and still completely daily driveable.

as far as the hp upgrades. yeah over 400hp s13 is better. for most people that is a full on PIPE DREAM. most people wont break 350. and if they do break it, they break the motor a few weeks later hahahaha

as far as torques go between the two..on the track doesnt really matter, your not below 4k anyways haha...so it snot even an issue. on the street, S14 SR blows s13 away, vct baby vct.

i had a zenki s14 sr in my previous zenki s14. wish i could say it was because of something more technical, but i chose that engine over an s13 sr because the shop didn't know what they had and had both at the same price. i picked up the complete motorset w/ everything for just over a grand.

well i put a s14 sr20 in my s13. I've driven both s13 and s14 motors. But I felt for daily driving and having a bigger turbo from the start. The s14 sr was a much better choice, and have never regreted the decision.

And dousan is right most people really don't go over 400hp so that more power rule is pretty pointless, I really like the feel of vtc.

Only thing I really like favoring the s13 motors are the parts availability.

parts avalibility isnt one of my main consers infact that is the least since I have an easy time gett8ing product. If I wanted more than 450hp I will get an Rb or stroke it instead and would like to play around with vct

Well the only biggest advantage of not having VTC is the fact that you run bigger and more aggressive cams on the S13 than the S14. Which helps once you upgrade to a big turbo setup and get better head works. Another thing that keeps people away from the VTC is that if VTC breaks, its hard to find a replacement part for the VTC. I guess the whole less shiet to break the better mentality comes to play.
