mystery part, what is it
ok I dont have a picture of it and I know, thread is worthless without pics
but. On s13s (specifically SOHCS, I dont know about DOHCS since I own just sohcs now) The stock ignition coil mounts to a bracket on the shock tower. This bracket has another unit directly below mounted to it, and has a plug hooked onto it. If I unplug it the car wont start, its attached to the big bulky braket though and now that I have the msd/msd blaster coil I eliminated the stock coil from the mix and wanna get rid of that thing... plus im curious just what the hell its for! I know I know noobish question and dumb thread id flame myself if I seen it but im at work and cant get a pic of what im talking about here so spare me people |

Are you talking about the black module with a plug on it? Thats the ignitor chip/transistor. You kinda need that. Its a very basic switching circuit that 'amplifies' the ECU's signal.

Now i'm confused. The ignitor is tiny. Just extend the wires and mount it someplace else. How about you snap a picture so we can be sure of what you mean. I don't see how an ignitor could be the bane of your existance.

its not as much the ignitor, its the whole mounting bracket assembly its attached too, I didnt know if it had to be grounded right there like some flukey things can be, or if it could just be relocated easily (wanted to know what the hell it was before I just moved it and had problems later).

Remove it from the bracket, and leave it plugged in. If the engine still starts and runs, your question will be answered. On a swapped SR, some people just leave it hanging on the wire harness without it being fastened to anything. I don't see why it would be an issue. Extend the wires and neatly tuck it in somewhere, like by the rest of your ignition components. Good luck.
