![]() Curious to see who recommends what?
My s14 came with some generic tires that I want to replace... Debating between (in no specific order-open to other suggestions) Falken Ziex 512 Bridgestone Potenza RE950 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus I came to these conclusions primarily on the reviews and survey results on Tirerack.com.... Only tires I've ever purchased were Yoko's AVID H4s....both on my s13s.... I live in New York so I need something with good traction in shitty weather as well... |

try the new Potenza RE960as Pole Positions, they grip very well, and have a 400 AA tread wear rating. Kinda pricey, but I dig
changing over from FM901's which were rediculously noisy

Yea, apparently that noise is a big problem with a lot of owners... seems to be the consensus..... at least as far as i'm reading... overall they don't get a very good average score on tirerack.com... The Bridgestones are kind of out of my price range as well... think it's a toss up right now between the Potenza's RE950 or the Falken Ziex... |

I have had the Falken 512s and the Dunlops from that list. The 512s had more ultimate grip.... but damn I hate those tires. The sidewall is just stupid soft, and in any sort of turning situation, they would fold over before you could use all the grip. Also, there is a wear bar running around the entire circumference through both water channels, so they are hydroplane-tastic once the tread gets low.
The Dunlops were less grippy, had a slightly better sidewall construction, treadwear was similar between the two. The Falkens were quieter. If I had to do it again, I'd go for a Kuhmo ASX or Avon all season -Matt

I have tried 512, they are okay, but like everybody else said, after wear bar it's all down hill big time... I would like to recommend the Kumho ASX (all season extreme). It is CHEAP comparing to the others, and they have 420 wear rating. I think A traction and A temp.
you can check those out at tirerack, too. EDIT: I used to run ASX on my 240SX, it was taken off and moved to the ALtima. my friend S14 has ASX all 4 corners - they wear well, and provide excellent traction (consider it's an ALL SEASON tire)

Yokahama Avid H4 or H4s.
Seriously I've owned 3 sets of these tires and am extremely impressed with them. Their great int he snow and I even autoX in'em. They have suprisingly good grip. Also I recently got into a fight with a curn and both passenger side tires were slammed into the curb and neither one of the tires pucntured. The inpact was hard enough to break my tie rod, control arm, bend my power steering spindle to a 90 degree angle, and yank my strut assembly out of the strut tower. But like I said neither tire punctured. Lastly their very resonably priced too.

falken zeix 512 are ok on my protege5 but they don't have enought grip and the sidewall flexs to much for a rwd IMO. Not a bad tire for the money just not a race spec one by any means.

I give a +1 for the Yokahama Avid H4 or H4s. I have had them on 3 cars and have done mountian fun runs with them too. they are really great in the rain.
