ok well yesterday i foundout that i have a very leaky head gasket , oil in the anti-freeze , anti-freeze in the oil**not good** so anyway , i have no where near enough money to get the SR swap yet , so my dad said , i can front you some money , but not for the SR swap , just if i get the same engine , so now my question is , can i put a ka24de motor into my 90 240sx , do they intechange like yet? and if so i can i get it cheaper than the SR swap , , if i were to do that i would obviously turbo the KA. any answers and thoughts are welcome and i am in need of this cz my baby is dying.(rebuilding is out of question because if i'm gonna get that much work done i might as well just swap. thanks

Yes you can swap in the KA24DE, but its sorta the same as the SR swap, you will probably still need the power steering lines, although you dont have to make a bigger hole for the IC piping because its not turbocharged. If you arent doing the SR swap but you still want to turbo the KA you might want to seriously think over rebuilding the KA unless you can find one with very low miles. My advice, go invest in some crack, sell as much of it as you can, then borrow the rest of the money needed to pay for the SR swap or built KA.

The E to DE swap is pretty straight forward but you will need the complete harness from the DE because yours won't work unless you do some cutting and splicing and also you will need the steering pump and ac compressor because they don't transfer over to the DE from the E.

BTW I have a '91 KA24DE for sale w/ about 110k on it for $450

Why not just change the head gasket? I did it on my s13. It's not too hard. I think it would be easier than swapping. Then you could use the money you saved to do a sr swap later.

Just my 2cents

changing the head gasket???not hard???what??? i thought you had to rip half the thing apart to do that , you show me how and by golly i will , how much do the head gaskets go for? and i will need directions and a lot of time.....thanks so far , more info appreciated too

o yeah , i am trying to be very frugal about this , so the DE swap is cheaper right?

Ok I have a few suggestions and a few questions.

Q.1. How old are you?
S.1. If you are at least 18 let your dad take you to a bank and co-sign to borrow the money for the SR swap if you work and can pay it off. In the process you will build credit on the loan good way to start.

Q.2. How mechanically inclined are you and does your car run?
S.2. IF you are good with the tools now is the perfect time to learn your car by ripping the engine apart and seeing what you have to do for your SR swap.

Q.3. this should be 2 but Fvckit. Do you ahve a place at your house to tear the car apart? Garage coverd area? etc. if so how long can your car be down?
S.3. this is also a good time for cleaning. Rip that KA out get the simple green "the non crossive degreaser" and clean the egine bay and that KA. Fix what you can on the KA and get rid of it for a little bit of cash to go towards your SWAP.

These are just a few suggestions from someone who is going to spend $37,000 to ship two cars back to Texas.

well then dude , first i already have a loan out for buying the car in the first place and the car does run , well actually , but i dunno for how much longer , i have a garage filled with crap no room for a car , dammit(spring cleaning , maybe) , and i am very mechanically inclined but i dunno how long it would be down for , because if i'm gonna rebiuld then that will be awhile , i also don't have the equipment for that , i would need a engine jack and air compressor and what not , but if i'm gonna go through so much trouble for it i want to atleast upgrade , to the dohc or SR dad will only shell out so much , and that so much isn't enough for the SR , i have to shop around for a bit first , any one know any place i can get a ka24de cheap? with low miles

p.s. doea the ka24de work with the tranny from the ka24e model??

uhh, how bout a CA? Cheaper than an SR, and it's the engine that came stock in your car, so no drilling for larger IC piping or anything.

I think I got my head gasket for $30 or something. all you have to do is remove the intake manifold (you can let it hang if you want), take the valve cover off and take out the head bolts. Just don't let the timing chain fall down.

It took me about a week and that was because I was waiting on the machine shop. I had never done anything like that before, but it worked great! Started right up and ran better than ever.

You can get a photocopy of the head removel section in the service manual from the dealer.

It really is not that hard.
