Weight Reduction worries
I am going to start to do my weight reduction project on my s13 coupe. I have been doing some searching and have come across some great info on this site. Here's my worry. I initially was planning on ripping all the non-essential crap out like the back seat, trunk lining, spare, carpeting things like that. What I am afraid of is offsetting the weight balance. Can anyone give me some insight on what I can expect?
What have you done to your car to make it lighter? What worked? What didn't work out that you wish you could change? Thanks guys and girls. |

it will offset it to some extent, but at the level your at it wont matter much. At some point you can compensate by moving the battery to the back, fiberglass fenders, CF hood, ect. Removeing sound deadining and all extra unessicary wiring is good stuff too. You should search cause this has been coverd.

yeah thats all really easy. jsut keep the backseats to put back in if your gonna dailydrive that cause trust me, after a year you get annoyed at not being to hear the radio on the highway. mainly use it as a sound deadener from the exhaust. seats are easy to remove when you dont want the whole 10 pounds of them in there.
best weight reduction ever is putting Yourself on a diet lol. get healthy!

I was more or less wondering what each of you has done as far as weight reduction and what you want to do. Tonight me and my boy got rid of pretty much all of the internals. Once I get the pics on my comp I'll post a bit of a review.

One way to keep out the trunk noise, is just keep the trunk carpet, and hang the backseat carpet section from the seat latch hooks. Works for me.

What do you mean the bottom seal, the door seal? It's no big deal really. The stock door isn't watertight without rebuilding the seals anyhow.
My main concern was whether the windows and door lock mechanisms fit without too much modification. They look great. I will pick up a pair when I redo the paint. The way I see it, I'm saving money on paint so they're justified ![]() |

I see in the pix. You don't have any weatherstriping on the window trim. That will definitely leak. No big deal. You should get new ones any way if you really cared that much. My old ones are busted up and torn.

not that I know of. A precut lexan rear hatch would sell like hotcakes. I would buy one right now. No one that I know of makes fiberglass doors, but there has been talk of fiberglass hatches and there are fiberglass hoods.
