another 240 that fails state inspection

i search and read the other guys attempt to pass inspection but i still have a few ?? plus i dont know if my readings apply to the other threads..

first of all i live in texas and i fail the state inspection on thursday.

my readings wherelow speed emission results 815 rpm)

standard reading

HC 220 275
CO% 1.20 2.32

i passed the high speed though..

the guy that did the test told me that i should get my cat converter cuz it might be dirty and my whole exhaust for leaks..

should i do that???

i dont want to waste much money since i have alot of bills to pay..

or should i just do the other stuff mention in past threats

o2 sensor
egr
coolant temperature sensor
vaccums

before doing the inspection

i changed to ngk iridium, changed my oil(about time), and used some intake cleaner

plz help.... i have 15 day to get another inspection so i need to start replacing and cleaning....

thanks....

Did you really rev it and get your cat nice and hot before inspection? Run it hard right before you go in...

Makes a world of difference.

Did you use seafoam or was it some off brand stuff? Seafoam does wonders, and also, clean out the egr and iacv vacuum lines while youre at it. The egr system gets teh nazty.

looks like your running rich = co. hc can rise either way rich or lean.

check the fuel delivery/injectors/fuel pressure
& dirty air filter
or could be faulty input sensor, like ect.

also yeah running rich usually kills the cat.

How long had it been between the time you last started the car and when you took the test. For the cat to work its best it needs to be hot. This means on the way to emissions you should drive the car hard.

i drove for a few minutes only... ill drive hard next time thanx..

i went to a muffler shop and its like $90 for a new cat installed... i dont want to do it though cuz i am planning on buying a 3" exhaust i know its not gonna pass inspection either but thats why i wanna pass it before installing it.

so im working around the cat hopefully thats not whats making my car fail.. if not am gona have to "waste" my $90

if any one knows of anything else please let me know.. oh am also gona clean my maf sensor(it was from a junky car)
