s13 weird overheating issue

ok so about a month or two ago my car was overheating. so i took it to the shop he checked the water pump said it looked good. put in a new OEM thermostat and overheating quit. drove it for over 600 miles driving it hard and normal. but yesterday as i was driving just normal in town i see the thermostat go up to high. so i pull over and let it sit turn it back on and the needle is under operrating temp. but i didnt drive it back to the garage i got it towed. any one have any ideas what it could be i have noticed that the heat was getting cooler to. sounds like a thermostat right? he is doing a comperssion test tomorrow to see if its a headgagsket. but if it was a hg wouldnt it have done it when i got it back the 1st time? i drove it for some long distanceses at a time to. and would the over flow tank not being filled up cause it to over heat. when it wasnt overheating the overflow was under min but as i drove it more and more the over flow has got fluids from somewhere and got past min. so any suggestions on what could be the probelm would be great.

got my fire suit on allready for the flaming that will come. but hey being 16 sucks. not knowing near as much about cars as older people do so id figure id ask some of the best for help.
im so ready to get it fixed so i can go driving again

try bleeding the system

when car is cold,
1) take out the 10mm bolt in the water neck that connects to the upper rad hose
2) open the rad and fill with water until it starts to come out the hole in the water neck, put the bolt back and tighten
3) top off the rad and close it

the system takes alot of water...you don't need to use coolant unless you think there is a chance the water will freeze in there

still could have a HG issue, but keeping the water full will get you further between overheatings if you don't want to do the HG right away
