idle doesnt want to go down

so i have a freshly swapped in sr and i start it up and..... 1500rpms. so i go through the fsm and all that jazz. im confused here, it says to check timing first but the r's must be below 1g. so i went to lower the idle and i didnt just as the fsm says there and it starts to go down as im turning the screw and then it will jump back up to like 2000rpms. im lost, timing has to be done at less than 1000 but i cant even get it there. AHHH. any help is greatly appreciated. oh yeah, i searched and found a bunch of threads on adjusting idle but no one with my exact problem.
thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like it definetily must be a vacuum issue. Maybe you have a line hooked up wrong, or just simply a vacuum/boost leak.

thought my rpm's had to be below 1000 to set timing properly. as per fsm.
def not a vacuum problem. been over the system like 9 times. retightened everything.

have you tried cleaning the AICV? take it off and clean it with carb cleaner. that might help. those things DO get dirty.

also, you should set timing by lifting the valve cover as per FSM.

my leaky BOV causes idle to go all over the damn place btw. going up and down 500-900 and then going all the way up to 1500 for a while, then dropping down to 1000...etc.

I would adjust timing and clean AICV first. check you BOV too although I doubt thats the problem.

^ this thread should help

clean your IACV and your intake butterfly with intake cleaner costs $3 from your local kragen

my car had stumbling/ high idle and this smoothed it out to 700rpm

if that doesn't work (which it should)

check your vaccum lines or for a dirty MAF

good luck!

I had a similar problem with my idle and found that the small vaccumm nose that plugs into the bottom of the throttle body was clogged!!! Replaced it and bam! steady low idle.

I have a KA but I'm pretty sure you have the same or similar hose. It's a hose that helps regulate idle at closed throttle....worth a try.
