Things to do while my motor is out? (s13 blktop)
Hey guys I just recently sold my ka-t and got a blk top sr20. I just got the motor today and would like to prep it before I throw it in. What Im installing/replacing before I put it in is;
Tomei 87 / 1.2 Metal Headgasket Centerforce clutch Nismo thermostat Ebay exhaust mani OEM waterpump FMIC Triple core alum rad Samco hoses 3" DP and turbo outlet Litened pullys What I need to know is, what emissions crap should I replace and also what else would be ideal to change while I have the motor out, I tried to search a bit and didn't find too much so any help would be great. ![]()

dunno, how much are you willing to spend,
i mean, you can take apart the blacktop and rebuild everything ground up, blueprinted, with forged goodies, phat turbo, etc etc etc or just put it in as is... you did post putting in metal hg, so that means you'll be able to go down to the bottom end easier, but how far are you wanting to go... i dunno about the ebay manifold... i personally wouldn't put that in, unless they've been proven not to crack and actually improve over stock... |

yea clean the engine bay and motor....replace vac lines maybe? and if you want now would be a good time to poly urethane your motor/tranny mount if you want the added stiffness.
other than that replace all the gaskets and id clean out the AICV since sometimes that can get pretty nasty. that can be a bitch to get to once the engine is in there. |

-Replace all the gaskets.
-Check for and fix rust spots in engine bay. -Check for and leaks coming from Brake Master Cylinder, Clutch Master Cylinder, and brake lines near wheel wells. -Go through and double check all connections and sensors and make sure they're installed properly and snugly. -Triple check to make sure there are no problems in the areas you won't be able to access once the engine is in (back of the engine near firewall and underneath intake and exhaust manifolds) Good Luck! |

upgrade your brake system, spot weld as much as you can. get the paint right, reroute/hide wiring, go for a v-mount setup and play with it as much as you can, go look at some clean chassis' and get your own ideas. .. . Lata ![]()

ok no ebay manifold lol, Im kinda on a budget here so I cant really go crazy or I would be rebuilding with forged internals. I also just did a DOHC swap before I decieded to go SR and cleaned and painted the engine bay.
Thanks for all the ideas, keep em commin

All gaskets, clean up wiring while you can and route it so it looks nice. Id get rid of oem catch can and get a different one as well.
Maybe go ahead and route the batter and fuse box if you like to the trunk or some other place. Might as well toss in a swirl pot too, Im getting one soon. Id check the oiling system too, the pan and pickup. Since your doing the clutch MAKE SURE TO do the rear main seal at the same time. |

belts, hoses, plug wires, spark plugs and clean everything so you can see any leaks on install really easy. by the way my ebay mani has been fine for a year now at near 300hp/300tq no dampener on engine and shitty mounts if it was gonna crack it would have for a bill they cant be beat unless you got some spare change to spend on a really nice one

If I had the opportunity to do that, I would strip the motor down to the long block and rebuild it back up. If you have money, you can tear down the block as well, but that's up to you.
I would definite rebuild/upgrade the intake and exhaust manifold. Completely redo the timing, water pump, and oil pump. Also don't forget to redo your turbo coolant lines and heater hoses as well. Those are a pain to do when the motor is in. |

thanks alot guys this helps alot
anyone know the coolent line fitting sizes I need to run SS braided lines? or where to get a gasket set? also whoever had the motor before me had a oil pressure gauge hooked up to the sender unit because I see the line was cut off also he has a thing for a coolent temp sensor too.

Plug the coolant return line on the engine near the firewall area. Get an S14 waterneck. Get Taka Motorsports S14 braided turbo lines. You'll thank me later. |
