How to check if MAF is working or not.

I am finishing up a KA24E to KA24DE swap. I need to know whether dual cam MAF is working or not.

Is there a way to tell if a MAF is functioning besides using ECU?

can you start the car with it disconnected? If not, connect it start car, then disconnect it!
will engine rev past 2500rpm with mafs disconnected? if not, connect it. does it rev past 2500rpm
check voltage while blowing though it, see it the reading change

If you can't rev past 2500rpm with the mafs connected maybe it's not working or wired incorrectly

Thanks a lot, guys.
The engine cranks but won't lead into conbustion with MAF connected or disconnected.

Of the 6 cranking attempts, I only got to smell fuels at 5th and later attempts. So I am suspecting something about FPR for which FPR regulator is not installed right now. MY engine is KA24DE and chassis is 89. Seems like there is a discrepency between these two when it comes to FPR control solenoid valve.
