Setting the car up for the track!!!... PICS!
Suspension, wheels, and tires came in last week...
I put them on and need to set it all up... My suspension setup consists of: Energy suspension bushing master kit SPL solid subframe bushings KTS coilovers 5Zigen FN01RC 17x9 +20 all around Bridgestone RE01R 245-40-17 all around Welded diff I put everything on and torqued everything down to FSM specs but where do I go from here?... Ride height? Camber? Toe? Preload? Dampening? I was wondering whether I should just adjust everything to what I think "looks OK" and drive it over to an alignment shop to get the car balanced... |

I should have made it clear that I am setting up the car for grip...
If the motor is ready, then I want to make it to the April time trial event at Buttonwillow... I am still planning on getting SPL RUCA and tie rods before then... The stock RUCA only have about 1.5* of adjustment per the FSM... |

1.Set the preload to where the springs and the preload perch sits snug where the springs don't really move. Constantly adjusting this will change your ride characteristics and will shift the balance of your car. Change this in the future.
2.Then, change your ride height. This will affect your camber and toe so doing this last doesn't really make any sense. 3.camber 4.toe 5.adjust your damper last. Since its new, set it to what KTS suggests during break in. If you really want it track ready i suggest the camber, toe and preload to be done at an alignment place with a corner balance so all you really need to do is step 2. |

Props for the no stretch and buying light wheels. Good looking car and quality parts. The locd diff will probably cause you to understeer or push through turns though. Id invest in a 1.5 way probably.
Alignment for Dummies Neglecting to get an alignment or improper alignment can hurt performance and make driving un-fun. This will be very basic explanation of different settings (recommended race settings are for a rear wheel drive car, 240sx etc) Camber - During cornering a tire will get maximum traction at negative camber due to bodyroll, tire roll, suspension travel. By adding stiffer coilovers you can minimize the movement and it will help keep the static settings. Fronts will see more load so more camber is recommended. Camber plates and adjustable rear upper control arm recommended. Good starting point - 3deg front/ 1.5 deg rear Caster - Positive steering pivot angle helps with high speed stability,cornering response and helps straighten the steering when going forward. Generally speaking more caster is better. Too much caster will make the steering feel heavy. Excessive caster will add negative camber to the outside wheel during turning, altering static camber settings. Sometimes you will lose some steering angle. Adjustable tension rods recommended. Good starting point - 1-2 deg over stock setting. TOE - Front: Toe in (not recommended) will help with straight line stability, encourages understeer. Toe out (advanced driver) will enhance turn-in response, encourages oversteer, too much will create bump steer and scrub. Good starting point - 0 toe or slight toe out Rear: Toe in will help with stability under acceleration, good control at high speeds, encourages understeer Toe out - ( not recommended, advanced driver) Car will feel funny(4ws), hard to control under acceleration, very easy to go sideways. if youre going for grip/road racing, id replace that welded diff before anything else, but thats just me...other than that, looks pretty cherry...might want to invest in some t/c rods to add some caster and run the p/b instead of the soft, shot bushing also...

Really nice car. But I have to agree with what others have posted. For road racing /autox I'd look into getting an LSD and losing the welded diff.
Congrats looks like you're on your way to really have some fun.

Since you didn't mention anything about different brakes, I'm assuming you have stock ones. First get some nice brake lines, calipers, rotors, and pads.
Then take it in to a nice alignment shop and get it cornerbalanced and aligned. Done and done. |

those are great tires! wish i had splurged for them instead of cheaper MX's i got. pls give us a review of the r-01r's the next time you go to the track.

yea as flybert said I'd upgrade your brakes. I hope to get some q45's cause I think it might balance a little better with stock rears since I'm four lug like you and z32 rear wont work.
Im getting 8.5 +25. You think that will fit with the same tire sizes without a roll? Id like to know how those tires work out for you. |
