s14 SR?

ok i know the main differences between the s14 sr vs S13 sr. i would search as well but the search button doesn't work since it gives a white blank screen.

i need to prepare myself when my KA blows after i push it this season and im lookn into an SR. was going to go ka-t but need reliability esp. when drifting.

i have an s14 right now. what do you guys suggest, that have drifting experience.

s14 SR or s13 SR?

i want maybe 250-270whp at the end after a couple years. first year i would only want 200-220whp since thats almost double the amt of a stock KA which i have.

the car is meant for drifting. which would be the better route? taking in consideration of powerbands and such? i know the S14 has t28, vvt and etc etc.

i also have heard the s14 SR is easier to get power from and has more potential.

is the 1-1.5g extra really worth it?

I like s14 sr's much more. Also paying that extra money you would not even need to upgrade the turbo. One thing I like about the s14 motor is that it does not require as high of a redline and high redlines are what kill motors. Ever see a WRC motor blow up? They only rev to 5500-6 or something along those lines. Ever see an f1 engine blow up? Atleast two every race. High rev's kill motors and drifting=high revs. With the stock turbo on an s14 sr you could make your 270-280whp with "bolt ons".

the s13 redtop/blacktop motors have more potential. They have larger ports which allow overall more flow.

I like s14 sr because it has VVT

and other than what it comes with stock thats about it.

VTC helps create tq at lower rpms... but once you go above a 256 cam or play with the retainers or springs you have to disable it.

s15 sr's are getting cheaper lately

wow s14 sr's i have seen run no more than 500 compared to a s13 blacktop

oh god i love my s14 sr, i've driven redtops. But you also get a kickass intake manifold. But I like it more, daily driving it has more low end.

f1 one motors dont blow up
they are at their limit but they can go more, just not reliably
they dont blow
they get replaced.
f1 isnt cheap

anyways
s14 sr is the way to go imo, turbo wise, motor wise, and such
parts are easy/same both routes
u just pay more in the beginning but the goods u get, its worth getting a s14.
install wise, both are cake.

i have a s14 sr in my s13. after actually getting the engine and comparing it to redtop, the s14 is better . its more refined. some little details make a big difference. for example, teh water line is already going to the water neck, not the back of the engine. t28. most likely gonna be in better condition. way better oil pickup than redtop. the intake manifold is better. and you also get teh cool valve cover

who still gets redtops nowadays?

its 2007, its either s13 SR blacktop or s14. i have never heard anyone getting redtops since 2 years ago.

and i live in canada...lol

up in the north pole, an s13 clip with a blacktop will run us about 2-2.5gs CAD, and 1g more for a s14 clip.

i guess the thing that sways me into getting an s14 is the easier install since no MAJOR rewiring has to be done unlike an s13 sr into an s14. also the bigger turbo and the newer engine.

yeah one of the reasons i went s14 sr, is to be different. I actually liked it better in the end, water line is on the waterneck makes it easier to work on. The oil pickup on redtops suck, my stock 89-90 throttle cable worked perfectly. If i did the redtop, It would run over the valve cover. if I did it all again i'd do s14 sr.

Sorry to get off track but did you people not watch the 2006 season of f1?....The 2.4l v8's were letting go continually and massive flames spewed from their exhaust quite regularly. The motors having to last two races definitely did not help these 2stroke like revvin motors (highest was Cosworth with 21.5k?.....).

Bahrain Grand Prix-David Coulthard suffered engine failure on cool-down lap and received a 10-place grid penalty for 2006 Malaysian Grand Prix.


Malaysian Grand Prix-David Coulthard, Felipe Massa, Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and Ralf Schumacher were all forced to swap engines from the Bahrain GP and therefore lost 10 places on the starting grid after qualifications, despite many of them competing in later sessions (Massa actually changed his engine twice, causing him to lose 20 places).Fernando Alonso could only manage 7th place after engine penalties. Rosberg's engine blew on the 6th lap, while Webber also retired nine laps after his teammate from engine failure as well.

in the end if you want better flow to the head your gonna end up going mild cams with ITB's to allow a broader powerband and keep a very nice low end torque.

but seriously s15 sr's are getting ridiculous cheap now... about the same price as a s14 kouki sr was like... 2 years ago? s15 tranny weak? yeah whatever... if you really hate it you can always swap the bell housing and grab your old ka stuff to put it in.

I haven't had any experience with S13 Sr's but my experience with the S14 SR notchback has been great. And my mechanic just installed a non turbo VVC cam
set to replace the stock turbo VVC cams. The non turbo VVC cam has a slightly higher lift interestingly enough.
Should be interesting to see how it feels.

I went from Redtop to S15 SR.

redtops can suck my ass until my forehead caves in.

The notch backs are so much more refined. its not the big stuff, its the little stuff that makes the difference working on it.

For the record, Mattback is running 272s up to 9000+ rpm with VTC still functioning.
