? on used RPS 6 puck clutch.. puck material very close to rivets
![]() I was wondering if the material was supposed to be so close to the rivets... If the pads wear even barely the rivets will score up my flywheel/pressure plate. Im thinking of dremmeling the rivets down SLIGHTLY on the one side pictured above. The other side looks fine. I was told the disc has around 10k on it What do you guys think? I was also wondering if you guys could tell me which side faces the flywheel? There is no indication on the disc... the side pictured is flat and the other side has a rasied area in the middle. |

I imagine its fiarly worn, 10k miles.
side that faces flywheel is the side that is flat. Not sure on the dremel idea, i dunno how much material it would take to throw it off balance, other input?

surely not a good idea to grind down those rivets. There isn't much material to work with on them anyway.

If your going to just daily it and not beat on it that disc is fine for probably a good 1,2years+ depends on driving style. Don't mess with those rivets. |

I wouldn't mess with the rivets man, those things are built the way they are for a reason.
Install it the way it is if you want, for the work involved in a clutch swap, I personally just buy a new clutch, instead of one that was used and abused like a performance clutch probably is for 10k miles.

this is for my auto to manual swap an I paid 200 for the damn clutch and Id rather not tear up my fidanza flywheel
an those rivets have so much material on them.... if i just shaved them down slightly.... an the guy said he didnt abuse the clutch... 10k is from daily driving.... bought this stuff from articdragon who has been on the board for a while. |

If you are worried about it then don't install it.
How does the pressure plate look? If it's fine just go and buy a new disc since you are trying to be cheap about it. Buying a used clutch is like buying used brake pads IMO. |

i know they wear a lot slower... but the rivets are like RIGHT there... any material removed on the pucks an its gona be hitting the rivets.
I think im gona try an get a disc thingy to shave em down just slightly. that little bit of weight shaved off rivets wont do a thing. If it does... o well time for a new clutch disc |

Are you reading anything that people are saying?
DONT TOUCH THE RIVETS Fidanza plates are $70 on phase2's site. Don't ruin a perfectly fine clutch disc because you're afraid of scratching a replaceable $70 plate. |

i bought the flywheel and clutch for 420 shipped. thought it was a good deal since they had only 10k on em an articdragon said his mechanic told him the clutch had plenty of life left on it. I wanted a good performace clutch and flywheel but didnt have the dough to buy new.
Give me a good reason why you guys are trippin over the rivets? What would you guys say the clutch is worth then? Maybe I can get some of my money back for a new disc. Ill have to email RPS and see if they will sell me just the disc I guess. Pressure plate looks fine. |

all i have to say is, you bought a used clutch. put it in your car. when it goes bad replace it with a new one. there is no point complaining about it. that clutch will last you at least a year. ive gone through a brand new exedy stage 2 in 6 months. clutches go bad. that is a performance clutch and is made a certain way. dont screw with it. im sure that it doesnt look any beefier new. i know articdragon pretty well, and he had that clutch for a very short time and never beat on it. for 420 shipped you still got a good deal considering how much flywheels sell for. the mechanic that looked at it knows what hes talking about also. either way that is 10k worth of wear and you can put more miles on it. just put it in your car, youll love it. when it goes bad get another one. thats how things work. dont stress yourself out over doing the work twice, cuz unless your gonna put a stock clutch in your car, your gonna be changing clutches every 1-2 years anywayz.

the clutch disk looks fine, furthermore I can attest to the fact articdragon didn't even have the clutch that long before his accident. I mean, if he sent you pictures and disclosed everything about the clutch before you bought it, then everything should be gravy.
brand new clutch discs don't have much more material on them new anyhow. bottom line: you'll be fine for quite a while. |

I sold him the clutch. I was told it still had life. It grabbed pretty well and the dude was right on with the usage, 10k miles, which I mentioned before selling. The RPS clutch didn't have that much more material when I got it brand new than it does now, which surprised the hell out of me, but it worked awesome. Also, flywheel surfaces don't need to be replaced, they can be resurfaced for cheaper. I'm pretty sure it'll last you a good while, so I wouldn't sweat it. I wouldn't be selling something that it just gonna take a crap on you in a short amount of time. If you were gonna be beating on it constantly, such as launching it or drifting with it, then yeah, I would understand your concern, but you told me it was for your daily driving needs also, so I figured this would get you on the road for a significant amount of time. If there are any other problems, lemme know.
BTW, this was the street 6 puck, not the MAX one, so torque cap is 300 ft-lbs, which is overkill on any NA KA, haha. |

And if you are really worried about it (I agree, it looks to be just a low pad design) there's probably a tractor/heavy equipment place locally who can rebuild it with whatever kind of material you want for cheap. I had a 4puck Vitek clutch rebuilt for $60 with a harder pad than what it originally came with in under an hour.

$125 for the disc to be rebuilt which is what im going to do I think. Im gona call some tractor shops and see if I can get it done for cheaper tho.
The material is just too close for comfort....Some of the rivets seem slightly closer than others too... I just ploped the disc down an took a pic. I dont want to finish up my manual swap and have to change the clutch disc a month or two later when I am getting into other things. ^thanks for the help. *edit* Just called some tractor shops and they want around $200 to have it rebuilt!!! oh and I plan on going KA-T... I know its overkill for a NA KA |

The cheapest new disc you could find was 125? I'm talking about getting your current disc having new "pucks" installed. Call RPS wanker
