Hey guys,
I'm going to put in my amps and sub in next week, and I was just wondering where you guys ran your power wire through? Is there a certain spot behind the dash thats easy(like a hole big enough)? Or did you guys have to drill a hole? Was just wondering, to save some time instead of fiddling around trying to find a hole. Also did you guys run the power wire to the back trunk through the plastic door runners, that are running across the floor board (along the door)? Thanks. |

I drilled. Make sure you have a big enough drill bit, and a gromett to place in the hole. I messed up there, and now i've got to go back and put something in to keep the wire from rubbing.

You don't mention which car you have... I have a s13, and it was easiest for me to go through the firewall next to an existing wire (and existing grommet). straight back from where the battery sits. My car had lots of grommeted holes to choose from, I saw no need to drill, but if you do, be sure you use a grommet, and make as small of a hole as you can get away with.

Well my wire was to big to run under the carpet (1/0) so I put it under the car and popped up where I wanted it. If you are running 4 awg or smaller than just drill a hole in the firewall and run it down the side of the car. Take of the plastic sill trim and pull the carpet back. You should see some little plastic pieces that house all the stock wiring. You can run the wire through that and then go under the back seat and under the rear carpet, out the the hatch down the bumper and into your gas tank.
Oh wait, no stop at the under the carpet part. haha another thing, if you don't have grommits you can use an old piece of heater hose instead. (Edited by idunit at 7:11 pm on Jan. 28, 2002) |

well as far as the firewall went, i drilled ...but then i went from there, down to the right, behind that corner box , and then under the plastic running board next to the seat lever. after popping that out, just pop out the rear quarter panel where the seatbelt disappears. after that you should have the trunk open so you can see a direct spot from the interior into the trunk...from there just hide the wire under the carpet and let it come out where ever you want in the trunk carpet and your set...i went the same way for the amp remote wire but when i got back to that fuse box, i went up under the dash to the head unit.

Hey!!
I'll get in on this!! I have a 98, so I think it's going to be the same... I came strait down from my battery (with my car on a lift ) made sure to keep it outta the way running totally underneath the car. There was a factory gromet to right right in the spare tire well... I took that gromet cut out enough for my two pieces of 4AWG and sealed with a sealent. It's completely stealth and required absolute no drilling. Plus it can be completely reserved by the price of that $2 gromet!! I thought it was pretty clever. Soon I will be completing my writeup on the whole install and posting it on the site. Yay. Jeff |
