need opinion

i have been looking for a 240 since i totaled my last one. Anyway, I have found another one that looks pretty good to me. The car is a 95 with 96,000miles on it. The woman has owned the car since it was new from the dealership....the thing even has the original radio in it etc. Anyway, shes asking 4k for it, problem is the car has been overheating and was stalling occasionally before. she just had the dealer replace the ignition wires, water pump, and thermostat. The car is still overheating and the dealer told her its the headgasket. First im thinking of offering $2500-2700 for it...does that sound good to you guys? also Ive never replaced a head gasket and im wondering how easy it is, also what else could be causing this the HG id like to kno what else i could be looking at since i kno that often one problem turns into another

the WTB in your sig kinda alludes to wanting an engine swap anyhow... and since you're parting out the crashed S14, why not offer 2500-3000 for the car as-is and get a mechanic's estimate for a gasket replacement (not cheap iIRC) to give reason why you're offering what you're offering (ie. an explanation so she doesn't feel lowballed).
Get it home, do your swap, and part the KA along-side your broken ride.
Problems solved

a 95' with under 100k miles is not wise to pass up. offer 2900 because the car is over heating. She will understand. Rebuild, turbo it.

yeah i put my car into a telephone pole and got a nice big chunk takin outta my block and my oil pan is literally in pieces...my tranny wont go ito gear and theres a puddle of fluid on the top of it near the shifter so i assume thats done too....id like to buy new parts and redo the swap but i would want to replace the headgasket so the car can get me around in the meantime....the car started to overheat on her so she towed it to the dealership and they gave her an estimate of like 2200 for the job so she said the price of the car is negotiable

....so is replacing the HG something i should attempt myself having never done it before? anyone done a write up on this? and how difficult is it to do?

i thought a bad head gasket was caused by overheating, not the other way around.

If the water pump and thermostat have already been replaced the head gasket is the next logical step. Unless you have crack in your radiator. Check all hoses. But I would still buy it for no more than 3k.
