Ask an Atheist
So if the year we are in is based some how on Jesus' life or death. do Atheists believe we are not in 2007?

I am asking nicely that people please be mindful of others' beliefs (or lack thereof, given the topic as presented)
I don't mind pinking people if it gets out of hand as religious topics often do. |

meh... it's just used for referance, because if we (i'm agnostic) were all stuck up, we would have to go into a 10 minute long schpiel about how we don't believe in the christian beliefs before saying that in year 4,550,002,004 (have no idea what numerical value you would use) we had a drink with christina and that we think that you should try out a relationship with her
makes the world turn a bit faster |

I just find it interesting that it seems like all "western cultures" are in 2007. And it seems to me that this number was based on christianity. I am christian, have faith in god but not in church. I just thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss. sorry phlip.

Christian culture and Roman calendar synergy has very little to currently manifesting judeo Christian anything.
Roman Catholic and Eastern orthodox might be closest simply because of the Council of Nicceas lineage and the later schism in the church that split east and west. All this born again Christian prophecy based hype has the least to do historically with who has rights to the western roman/Constantine refined portions of culture which give us this AD starting point. "In the year of the lord" does refer to Christ. I would say it’s a cultural thing. Just like Greek and Roman art is inseparable from out day to day life, common conversation and nightlife and styles in 'western' societies. I mean atheists still eat Greek food and imp sure wouldn’t mind cultural festival including religious re-enactments, if they do then they are sorely mistaken where a lot of common symbology and basic human ethics is derived from.

You can be JDM and just call 2007 H19.
But the way we format dates today is actually an ISO standard, being ISO 8601 yyyy-mm-dd. So, that is your final answer.

It's 2007, I'm not religious, though I don't really like being classified as atheist or agnostic or whatever, because I'd rather just not be classified at all since that just leads to religious debates which I like to avoid. I respect everyone's beliefs as long as they don't try to force them upon me. Even though I'm not religious, I still celebrate Christmas and such holidays and customs, it's more about tradition than religion.

every new citezen should be forced to take psychadellics and ride on the "small world" ride 3 times before granting citezen ship.
"you live diversity?" "yes i like diversity" "you like the small world" "yes i like the small world" "you will accept others religions and not try to kill them" "yes i will accept" hahaha. yeah...im a facist

2007 has nothing whatsoever to do with anything relating to Christianity or Jesus' life, death and resurrection. It's just a superstitious silly thing people try and link to the use of the number 7 in the Bible, which some people believe symbolizes perfection, God or one of Gods names etc... I don't really have any idea what exactly I think it means, I have never given it much thought.
People went crazy expecting the Apocalypse in the year 666 AD, because of it's use in the book of Revelation. Similar rumblings I'm sure probably happend in the year 777 AD. It also happend in the year 1000 AD, and we all remember the year 2000, and how some people were convinced the end was coming then too (Stupid millenium bug that turned out to be nothing notwithstanding. lol) The year 2007 is not significant in any way.

I remember once in school, I took only significantly used numbers from the Bible, and showed that the world would "end" in 1998. I think I made some of my classmates hop into bed with mommy and daddy that night. haha

"GOD, he is ze biggest bitch of them all."
![]() In all honestly I believe in perhaps there being some sort of superior being making our lives confusing, but I REALLY DON'T FUCKING ABOUT WHETHER THE YEAR IS BASED ON JESUS CHRIST. IT'S A YEAR IT SERVES IT'S PURPOSE. It's like bitching about veggie burgers cause the origin came from killing cows and using their tasty goodness to fill up 2 pieces of bread.

to answer atheist still use 2007, my brother is atheist and he uses the year 2007. doesnt really care. i think its just more of a custom that they made for us, because they believe jesus wasn't even born on christmas, so who is to say that he was born at 0 year a.d. i believe the romans just implemented something to show the power that they had over everyone...saying looky here biznitches, we made this calendar and you will use it. so they did and we still use it today. but that's just what i think.

July - Julius Caesar August - Augustus Caesar. Don't believe me? Compare the romance languages and those derivative, like Latin, Spanish, Italian September - sept, septo = SEVEN... so why the fuck is it the 9th month? October - octo, very similar to Octo = 8... 10th month? I didn't get the papers on that. November - nove, nueve = nine, how did it slip to 11? December - diece, diez = 10... but it is the 12th month? The Romans took liberties with the calendar that have gone unchecked and likely will remain as such in this lifetime. |
