can anybody tell me how to fix a rust spot on the chasis of my 1989 nissan 240sx its on the driver side under the car. its right at the joint of the body and the engine bay.

no i dont no how to weld but my friends do and it is rusted through

Be prepared for some serious cutting, grinding, and welding. Im going to assume you dont know what your doing. So just take it somewhere, and see what they say. If its really bad, just look into finding another car. Rust on the frame is a pretty serious issue.

Is it surface rust or has it rusted all the way through?
If it is surface rust then you can either use sand paper to take it off. If you have a angle grinder, you can use a flap disk or a wire wheel.

If it is rusted all the way through then you will need to go about it differently.
First, you will have to take out the rust. You can cut it out slightly past the rusted area.
Then you can either get a piece of metal that is slightly larger or get a piece that is the exact same size. Getting the larger piece would be easier but not as nice looking. Cutting the new piece the exact same size would be more difficult but will produce better results.
Either way, if you don't have the tools and/or knowledge, then I would not try to attempt it.

Well, knowing my welder friends skills, I'd have a shop do it lol. Thats just me though. At least at a shop they usually guarantee their work.

A unit body car supports its self like a house of cards. 1 weak spot could throw the whole thing out of whack, you know? I'd try to get it fixed soon, and try not to drive it too hard, just to be safe.

Man if I lived in NJ im sure I counld help, but I dont so I'll just give you some sound advice...

Just ask around. Im sure there are quite a few people who have gotten things welded around your area. Go into a few shops, ask to see some work, get some quotes, ask if they have any type of warranty... The usual research before investing time and money.

yea cuz i paid some guy to do it and it looks fine but wen u lift it and look underneath the car it looks bad cuz u can still see the rust on the other side

Then the repair was not done properly. Try to talk to some people and get some referrals on good body shops.

would it be fine to cut out all the rust and then jam pack the the hole wit bondo and let it dry and then weld a metal plate on top of that.

there aren't any places that i heard of around my area that do that stuff i been to so many places and the say no cuz they dont wanna get sued if anything goes wrong
