Transmission swap...Grinding noise when engine braking???

Just did an auto to manual swap. Everytime I let the car engine brake (car in gear foot off the gas) and im in the 2300-2800rpm range I get a kind of grinding sound along with some roughness.... it sounds kind of like the driveshaft being pushed too far into the transmission.

Ive got an ebay lightweight flywheel, RPS 6 puck street clutch, stock driveshaft and poly filled engine mounts o and I used a needle bearing for the pilot bushing.

It also chatter s quite a bit when in reverse or if im turning and trying to engage the clutch. Will the clutch wear in and quit making the noise so apparent?

Anybody else have this prob?

Thx

I had a similar problem with My AE86 when I had a Tripple-Plate Clutch in it. Turned out I broke 10 of the 13 blots that held the pressure plate to the flywheel. so when I engine braked you could here the bolts rattleing around in the holes.

I've got a similar noise, but I know for sure it's my 2way diff. Pulling the tranny back off to look for broken/backed off bolts would be the first step. Making sure it's got the correct amount of the correct tranny fluid is the second step.

If you've got a non-abs car, and you put in a non-abs driveshaft (that's important) from the correct generation, it's not the driveshaft. It can't be pushed "too far in" to the transmission, and how could it move, anyway? Its bolted to the diff, which doesn't move.

The noise you're hearing is either an incorrectly installed clutch, loose bolts rattling the pressure plate, or just a noisy 6 puck clutch. The shaking/uneven engagement in reverse/etc is just an aggressive clutch. It'll get a little better over time, but that's the price to pay for having a 6puck with an aggressive pressure plate.

Do you have access to a lift? My car seems to make a grinding noise as well.. But it's actually my exhaust vibrating and hiting the rear sway bar. CS exhaust hanger bushings tuck the exhaust in close. Also, I in any case where metal is concerned.. the vibration could come from anywhere. I replaced my drive shaft and trans only to figure out later that my rear had too much play. Just take your car to Nissan and save yourself money/headache. Let an experienced tech handle it.

I've got the same noise... My noise is coming from the transmission for sure...

I put the car on jackstands yesterday and turned the car on (out of gear) and it made the noise on startup... Does yours do that?...

Tonight I'm going to pull the tranny out again (third time in two weeks) and see what happened...

its the driveshaft metal collar rubbing against that cover at the end of the transmission where the driveshaft goes in. i dont think it should be that much of a problem

i believe my friend had the same problem with his tranny. some bolt came loose or something. took it out and redid it. fixed. the sound it was making sounded as if it was coming from the Diff so he got a new diff..wasnt that. so yeah..might want to check if a bolt came loose.

it could be that the pressure plate came loose or you have a throttle bearing problem chances are that is you bearing also check the nuts that hold up the master clutch cylinder they may have come loose. hope that helps

I torqued everything down a little tighter than spec... its made this same noise since I first drove it around

I think that its weird it will only make the noise around 2500 rpm....if it falls to around 2000 rpm the sound gets louder and just drops off..... its loudest in 4th.

Ill check the obvious and see if anything came loose.

BTW the window weld filled engine mounts SUCK for daily driving.... im replacing those things as soon as I get money for some Nismo ones
