Will a n1 exhaust for a s13. Work on my 79 280zx from the catback?

make it fit

or cut the muffler off and take to exhaust shop and pay $50 for the rest of the piping

No it will not fit. You can prob modify it though.

why not get one made for cheaper? you can buy APEX brand N1 mufflers and have a shop make you one for cheaper than buying the catback product from APEX. I know, ive done it.
